I got my HTC 8X yesterday. While I feel its great phone, I am starting to feel the pinch of spending 600 bucks on a phone. I know I can resell it down the road, but Windows phones dont hold their value like the iphones do. Now if it was on a contract, I would not have thought twice. So do I have a 14 day or 30 day period when I can return without any penalty?

AFAIK 14 days. You'll still get hit with a restocking fee.

If you're going to stay for 2 years anyway, then use the discount that carriers provide.

If you can't live with a phone for 2 yrs, then you'll have to go unlock.

I would have gladly extended my contract if they let me keep my unlimited data. Since I am on an individual plan, they said there is no way to do the add a dummy line workaround that most people are doing.

How much data do you use in a month? I currently have verizon unlimited data, but I use less than 2GB per month. I am always on Wifi for the most part. So upgrading the Droid DNA won't be a big out of pocket expense for me. $600 for a phone is a lot to swallow..

In a week or two PagePlus will have a $70/m 5gb plan to go with their $55 2gb plan.

This doesn't do a huge amount of good until they get LTE though.

This doesn't apply to T-Mobile as much, which discounts phone plans if they aren't subsidizing a phone.

don't let anyone talk you out of keeping your unlimited data. You got the best data plan on the planet. Keep it. Pay retail for your phone. Verizon phones don't hold their value anyway (generally speaking) because they are CDMA.

    Wow that sucks.

Yeah I would try and keep unlimited if you can. I would use 5gb min to stick it to Verizon too.

There's the Nexus 4, which is pretty cheap off contract.

    Heh heh.

I leave Wi-Fi on for location, but don't connect to my apartment network. Why should I? Four bars of LTE are faster.

Same. My usage is way up there but I realized it's because I never use WIFI since LTE is so fast and I'm paying for unlimited data anyway. If I actually used the WIFI at home and work I'm sure my LTE data usage would plummet.

Had to drop the unlimited plan here on Verizon too when I got a new phone. Really sucks.

I dont connect to the wifi at work, because our corp firewall blocks most of the sites, and I almost always forget to turn wifi on when I get home. Also when we take vacations, I prefer to use the phone to tether my laptop and tablets, since the speed is so much better than the hotel's wifi connection.
