6600
9600XT
9600pro
9550/9600/5700?

Not quite sure about the 9550, but the 6600 is the fastest out the bunch.

Edit- you could find a 9800pro/XT or even 9700pro for under that price. Maybe even a 6600GT. These all out perform the list above.

ARE YOU SURE you saw a 6600 for less than $100? That would be a bargain, and the 9600XT for less than $100 is also a rare good price.

Any price less than that for a 9700/9800, other than the 9800se, would have to be used. I really don't know where a 9800se fits in the hierarchy, and the 9700 has been off the market a couple of years.

So, IMO:

1. 6600
2. 9600XT
3. 6200TC
4. 9600 Pro
5. 6200
6. 5700
7. 9600
8. 5500
9. 9550
10. 9200
11. 5200
12. 9250
13. 4000

much slower. a 6600 overclocked heavily is about as fast as a stock 9800pro. for under $100, get used. a 9800pro can be had for around $90 shipped in the fs/t forums.
the order is for stock cards
9600xt
6600
9600pro
others

for overclocked
6600
9600xt
9600pro
others

kiwi, most of it's good, but the 6200tc is nowhere as fast as a 9600pro, it's more mx4000 range. it should be in the range of #10-#13

if you can find that 6600 with ddr2 and OC it to near 6600gt speed, you'll get the best performance for a card priced around $100

thanks a lot everyone for your imput. I'll forward this thread to my friend and let him decide what he wants.

With luck, the 6600 ddr will be availble in AGP soon.

The raw numbers are difficult to compare, but here is the way it looks for 9600 vs. 6200TC:

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=73&card2=196

I think they are actually pretty close, could go either way, but gpureview doesn't include their own benchmarking in the two-card comparisons. The GF 6200 isn't/wasn't quite the let-down that a "5200" was a couple of years back (is it almost three now?) when those seemed to be something like 10% as fast as a GF4 Ti-4200. The 9250, on the other hand, is a sizable comedown from a 9200, I think.

the tc is quite a letdown though. a r9600 will score around 18003dmark05. bygpu review, the 6200tc will only score a 1153.

it probably wont make it to apg ever. nvidia is having much trouble sourcing enough bridge chips to make enough 6600ddr1, 6200 and 6600gts. that's why the 6800gs uses NV40(native agp) instead of NV42. They would love to use the unlockable nv42 since it would make more business sense, the nv42 being non unlockable and cheaper to make to boot, but they're stuck.

No idea where you got that inflated 3D Mark 05. Tom's didn't include a 9600 in this comparison:

http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphi...0208/geforce_6200-10.html#3d_mark_2005

But the X300 is running the same RV350 GPU, and the numbers are 1100 for the X300 and 1200 for the 6200TC. I had forgotten than a non-TC 6200 would do 1500 on that bench.
