What's the quietest hard drive you own

Seagate or Samsung... I would choose Seagate for 5yr warranty.

I dunno, the Samsungs are slimmer than most harddrives - and are also don't generate much heat. There is an advantage to that too. . . The Samsungs have a 3 year warranty.

I had a 40GB Seagate Barricude IV that was dead silent. My new 200GB Seagate is pretty quiet but I can hear it, unlike my last one.

Seagate Barracuda IV. There is a difference between this and my Cuda Vs; IV wins hands down. I hear that the Samsung Spinpoint (I think they're called that) beats the IV but they don't offer it in 200GB quantities I think.

id say either samsung or seagate. i have a 160 samsung, a 200 seagate and a 80wd and the western digital is by far the loudest. out of the seagate and samsung they are both quiet but i can occasionally hear the seagate seeking.

I have a seagate barracuda V as a backup media hd. To be honest I don't think it's all that much quieter than my raptors.

ive NEVER heard a HD

1 80mm panflow is louder then ANY HD i have ever had, maxtor, seagate, quantum, WD... does not matter

actually I have a AMD 80mm pre tibird CPU you know teh slot ones, it has the smallest fan on it its almost runnig passivily, and i cant hear the HD in that either

my Seagate 7200.7 is so quiet.. but to be honest, my WD 800JB in the other PC is quieter... i can't even hear it seeking..... i love that hard drive just as much as my 7200.7.

Everyone will reply with Seagate. So there's your answer.

Winner.

I own four Cuda IV 40GBs. Quietest drive ever. StorageReview shows the new Cuda V as being quieter, but I don't buy it. I've heard both, and the tiny 40GBs are definitely quieter.

You sir, need quieter fans. 😛

The loudest component in my quiet box was the HD. And when a Cuda IV gets called "Loud" - you know you've got a hushed rig on your hands.

my 7200.7 is loud as a mofo when it seeks, it started out quiet but has started making more noise in the past few months. maybe it's cause i transfer too much data
