you mean hood scoop?
i know for rally racing it draws air into the vehicle to flush out the hot air, since rally cars get really hot inside from the engine
i assume its the same for a regular ricer car too, unless they aren't functional
Some cars have mid-mounted engines and the roof-scoop actually feeds the engine with air.
And what he said:
Rofl what an ugly car
To increase wind resistance?
so a car that has the engine in the front, the purpose of the roof scoop is merely for looks?
subarus have the oil cooler mounted right under the hood so they put a scoop so as it get more air flow.
re-read what i said, its for the passenger-area of the car.. to flush out the hot-air inside
People with ricer cars should be imprisoned.
On certain cars it's needed, I saw a turboed NSX once and it had to have that there. For most neons and such it's a waste.
i might be wrong then, but another thing is it creates downforce. like a spoiler creates downforce based on airpressure differentials, a scoop (if some do as i said at first and move air into the passenger area, then some that dont are merely for downforce) will force air into its air box and creature a pressure difference that also creates downforce, the same as wings and spoilers.
So should people with faulty logic - might as well turn yourself in.
lol @ u
Surely you can't be serious?
You are wrong - that makes no sense.
oh, and i wasn't wrong ryan... not sure about ricers and real street racers or drag racers (at real dragways).... but rally cars use roofscoops and cut into the roof to do both create downforce and move cooler air into the passenger area.
ha, both of you must not know the power of google
http://www.up22.com/Aerodynamics.htm (scroll down to the portion about scoops)
http://www.writerguy.com/primitive/body.htm (scroll down to you see item number 1030, the roofscoops follow)
again, im talking for people to NEED the real purposes of roof scoops, most ricers lack the true reasoning to own such a modification. street racers and those who race at dragways might use them for the downforce and air intake though.
Any road vehicle that isn't going 100+ MPH on a regular basis has no use for hood scoops, and they're useless at regular speeds.
I am serious. And stop calling me Shirley.
i never said they were for regular road vehicles aka ricers
street racers could use them, more downforce = more traction, could make or break a race
