What's the proper method for crimping wires (connecting new car head unit)?

I am installing a new car head unit and I just want to know what the proper method is for crimping or connecting the wires together. I will be using insulated closed ended connecters. But, do you spread each of the thin copper wires out and then put them together and twist. Or do you twist each individual one first and then try to connect them?? Thanks.
 
They aren't srew-on caps, i got them from radio shack, they are crimp-on nylon-insulated closed end connectors. It says they can be used for telephone and alary system connections.
 
just remove 1/2" insulation from each wire, twist together, and throw the crimp on. You might want to consider soldering and heatshrinking if you have the time, it's alot more permanent and you don't need to worry about the crimp ever falling off.
 
Can you either post a link or describe the connectors a little better? I'm still not clear on what you're using.

Edit: And yeah, soldering+heatshrinking is the best way to go if you can.
 
are you using spade,butt, those snap together connectors, or maybe something diffrent? if the connectors are red/blue/yellow you just stick the wire into the connector and crimp with the corosponding colored notch on your crimp tool.

That's what I do. But twist and crimp is loads better than twist and tape. Make sure you're using the correct size crimp thingy, or it's likely to fall off at some point. (Connecters for "telephone and alarm" wires don't sound like the right size to me.)
 
Spend the $5 and go to Home Depot and buy a pack of the screw on wire connectors. Super simple to use and they work. What more could you need?

You dont need any soldering or anything else fancy for hooking up a head unit to a car. The screw on kind do exactly what you need and are cheap and easy to use.
 
Right now, I did hook it up by hand and then putting the radio shack connectors. However, the volume is way to sensitive. At a volume level of 02, it is already really loud. I probably can't even go past 07 w/o blowing the speakers! I am thinking about getting the home depot screw on caps because I think it might be bad contact or something? Perhaps it is the amp-on wire?
