What's the procedure for freezing your drive for data recovery?

I have a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 and it is not being detected by the BIOS and it makes rather loud beeps, error beeps, not damage beeps. I know it's not the system speaker because I didn't connect the system speaker. I have felt it while it's running and it does not seem to be spinning up. Would the idle spinning be obvious if felt by hand? I plan on trying to save the data, and then RMAing it. I've heard of freezing the drive for some amount of time, but I'm not completely sure on the procedure. So if any one knows, please feel free to share.

if it was spinning up you would be able to hear and feel it

and the freezing wont work if the drive isnt spinning up, sorry

but the procedure (hehe if you could call it that) is to put it in some kind of sealed bag (to protect from moisture condensation) and put it in the freezer long enough to cool all the way through and then hook it up and hurry and get data off before it gives out

Do you know what the beeps mean?

Edit:
I just loooked over the Maxtor support website, and it said that Maxtor hdd's aren't equipped with audio speakers. The noise coming out of my drive sounds extremely like it would come from a speaker. It sounds like the sounds system speakers make, but my system speaker is not plugged in? What else could be making the noise. The freezing didn't work, as should probably be expected.

Have you tried lifting it about an inch off a hard surface and dropping it. Sometimes we get drives that won't spool up bearings freeze up, heads get jammed in park postion etc. Many drives have started working after this altough we still replaced them.

Some motherboad manufacturers include a speaker on the board. I've seen this on a lot of Abit boards, I assume others do it too.
