What's the point to get a car doing 150MPH?

Unlike a computer, which can never be too fast, cars are already "fast enough". You have almost nowhere to drive "legally" over 100MPH, at least not at your city/town. So what's the point to get faster car? Is that just "My XXX is bigger than yours"?

I've got a drag strip pretty close by and its not unbelievable that I'd be going over 100mph at the end of the 1/4 mile...besides while it might not be legal around town except for the drag strip, that doesn't mean it doesnt happen. I've been up to 115 off the track before.

Personally I don't care that my car can do 150.. whats important is how fast it accelerates and handles (does both well) I rarely do over 100, but I do drive 80-90 regularly.

Now if I used the autobahn to commute...

SPEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got my car up to 125 MPH the other nite :) nothing like a bit of speed to get the adreline rushing! Course I did it on a straight deserted road at nite :)
May be dangerous, but it sure is fun!!!!!!!!!!

i've done right about 140 on a deserted 4 lane highway at night once, but it was only once and won't be happening again for a long time. it was fun and definitely an adrenaline producing experience, but not something that has to be done. i think its just nice to know that you could do it if you wanted to, and usually those cars that can go that fast are the ones that handle and accelerate the best as well, so i guess it kinda comes with the territory?? or were you proposing more of a mandatory governor rule?

I dont know much about cars, but maybe it has to do with that the car will run more reliably at lower speeds? Kindof like a processor :) Even though you can overclock your processor an extra 200Mhz, it may run more reliably at its "labeled" speed ... Thats just a longshot, I really dont know enough about cars to say if thats true or not. Driving over 100 is definitely a big adrenaline rush. I've taken my car to about 115mph, definitely scary though if your car doesn't handle well at high speeds (If I sneezed, I probably would have died, I dont think my '92 Eclipse GS was meant to do over 100) :)

If some psycho is chasing you, you can get away very quickly. Those big rigs without trailers go pretty damn fast, so if they're trying to run you off the road, you can get away from them too.

My car easily does 100+ MPH, if it is dropped from a sufficient altitude. Seriously, I don't see much point in 150MPH top speeds but I wouldn't mind another 50 horsepower for merging onto the freeway!

My car is the Oldsmobile equivalent of this Chevrolet Caprice Classic station wagon, powered by a 307 Y engine. It's paid for, and insurance is only $46 per month. Sure wish I could afford a newer car, though. :( Maybe a four-door Saturn or something...

Hmm, I wanna know how does it feel to drive at 150
personally, the fastest I've been is 130 with my 3000GT (standard) and I don't feel a thing.
just nervous that a cop might jump out from nowhere (I was racing a 96 Corvette)
I like to feel the acceleration like superman the escape though.
I heard Ferrari can do that.

*usually* when I find myself doing well over 100 it's purely by accident. Like when passing a truck you realize there's a whole line of cars in front of it.

what if u were whacking off and that made you late for a class that you absolutely couldn't be late for...150 seems justifiable...heck even on local roads!

If you're gunna do those top speed runs, don't do em at night! You're overdriving your headlights by quite a distance.. Meaning if something is in the road you won't be able to see it until it's too late and your car hit its. At those speeds, and object in the road will put up a tough fight against your car, and your car will probably lose. Do it in the daytime when you can at least see the road.

Can you say Autobahn ? You CAN drive 150 MPH legally here. And once again folks: Life does exist outside the US. ;)

My car will only go 115. The highest I have gotten it to is 110. I was racing this car one night in the middle of a large city, Lexington, KY, it was awesome. I am just glad there was no cops around because not only was I do way over the speed limit but I had more people in my car that it is supposed to fit.
