What's the point of using the CC field in an e-mail?

Because generally in headers the To field fills up and makes a mess if you fill it with people, while the CC field doesn't. It's also a good way to let people know who else received that message, as opposed to a BCC which only the person who got it knows.

Clarity to the reader. If their name appears in the CC field, it's something they're supposed to take note of, but it's not directed to them, but if their name is in the To field, it's something directed to them. BCC is obvious.

well if you just want someone to 'know' of the email, but don't want them to have the impression they need to act on it, you can include them on the CC or BCC

aka. it's good for work stuff, and that's pretty much it

bc sometimes the letter is not "addressing" them, its adressing the person(s) in the to field

you cc as more of an FYI to people that may not be directly involved, but should be aware of the correspondence

Thank god someone else knows what it is for... would be believe that business teacher asked me that exact question, one? And she used to draft letters for an attorney's office...

To field is generally who it's directed towards, while the CC field is often for those that it's not necessarily for, but always want a copy of your emails. BCC is if you are sending it to many people and don't want to crowd the headers. If only AOLers could figure that out when they send those forwards :(

I only use BCC if I want to allow someone to see the content of the email, but don't want the recipent to know said person was CCed
