What's the point of this OCZ memory?

I think it's just a gimmick.

That's what I thought when I saw it too. I guess if you have an ATI themed system it would be kinda cool. Although I do see better DDR2-800 memory available out there. G.Skill HZ series, and Teamgroup come to mind.

Edit: one minor complaint with teamgroup memory. You have to install the heatspreaders yourself. Not much of a big thing, but why does almost every other manufacturer preinstall it and they can't?

just a marketing gimmik. corsair has SLI certified RAM. same concept. it's just performance RAM for gamers. just like the Fatal1ty line of products. just a marketing gimmik.

Its all along the same lines as the SLI certified ram, you can enable the setting in the bios and the CPU, ram, and Video cards are all overclocked automatically.

Better question is why you want heatspreaders?

Team Group themselves has stated that the heatspreaders do not improve temps, which is likely one of the reasons they don't ship them installed.

Also, since Team understand enthusiasts well, i suspect they ship them like that since many people want to see the actual RAM chips w/o having to rip off the heatspreaders.

why add more fans? don't most of our systems have enough? i believe most people are trying to quiet down their systems by minimizing the use of fans. if i put my finger on the heatspreader of my ocz platinum ram, i feel it pretty warm. this tells me that its doing the job of absorbing the head from the ram chips cuz i know its not the ambient temp of my system that warming up the heatspreaders lol.

and plus, they look good.
