What's the point of shopping retail anymore?

I'm not 100% happy about walmart, don't get me wrong.

I spent $100 on CD's in Borders a few weeks ago. The same CD's would have cost me $65 in Walmart and $45 on ebay. How do these people stay in business? (Mainly borders)

Instant access?
Lots of people without the internet?
People too scared to shop online?
Stupid people?

I dunno about Borders. But specialty music stores I'd go to for advice or maybe recommendations on music. Granted, I'd have to trust the employee and their knowledge.

Borders prices suck. It's nice to be able to go there and look through the books before you buy, but for the most part they sell stuff for MSRP.

The new bookstore in Triangle Center by WaWa seems to have pretty good prices (according to their website), but I don't think they sell CDs. Obviously their selection can't compare to Borders either.

Instant gratification is pretty much the only reason I buy anything retail anymore. I'd never buy CDs at places like Borders or Barnes & Noble, though. Heck, my brother works at B&N, and even with his employee discount, it's still usually cheaper for him to pick stuff up at Best Buy, not to mention online.

Borders is a higher class store, and has a much better selection and a significantly better shopping experience than Walmart. I hate going into Walmart, and basically refuse to shop there.

Plus, convenience is a big plus to shopping retail over the internet. I almost always buy my stuff online though...

And yet, even with this realization, you spent $100 at Borders, so apparently thats how they stay in business.

Oh, and Wally World has censored music, so that puts them out of the running in my book.

Atmosphere, bigger selection, more knowledgeable staff. They all add value to the product.

Of course, the easier way to find out would be to ask why did you spend $100 at Borders when you could have gotten it cheaper elsewhere?

Not many people(the ignorate masses) trust the internet. A friend of mine still pays $25- $30 for Anime at Suncoast. I keep telling him he can get it almost half price online(And I'm not talking about imported stuff. I'm talking US published stuff).
He's afraid of getting ripped off or something.

There is also the "I want it now" complex. Most people don't want to wait 3 - 7 days for something. They lack impulse control.

Depending on the item, I'll shop at a retail store with a good return policy for a modest markup over internet prices. Not CD's of course.
