What's the point of SATA?

Of course in todays world it's really just smaller cables and no more master/slave stuff, since, as far as I know, we really haven't broken the ATA133 bandwidth limits yet.
 
Have you ever worked with 40 and 80 conductor cables?

Well, considering that the SATA cables take up less space, and have a higher transfer capacity, I'd say those are two good "points" 😉
