Why don't Dell just drop their prices instead of having the consumers send in a form and go through all trouble?

Because I'm guessing 30% of people sucessfully submit and get their rebate money. It's a big somewhat organized scam and consumers end up loosing too much.

Because something like 40% of people actually send in their rebates.

1. Some people don't bother/forget to send in for the rebate.

2. They earn interest on your money in the meantime.

3. For business purposes, it is often beneficial to offer product incentives rather than discounting the actual price of a product.

4. Rebates are one way to generate mailing lists, which can be used and/or resold to other companies. (This practice varies by company.)

Because people are lazy. What I don't get is why companies screw over consumers and say rebates aren't valid. So then you call them up and they are like, "oh, yeah. okay, your check is on the way."

cough, any rebates having to do with Fry's.

[personal yet semi-related rant] Yesterday I got an envelope with my Epson All in one rebate...RETURNED to me. The explanation letter said:

"PO Boxes are not acceptable rebate addresses."

Holy mother of God. Fcck. Shiit. Bastards. Ball sucking, moose anus licking, raccoon dung eating trailer trash WASTOIDS! WHY are they not acceptable? What's safer than a PO Box?

I gave them all the required materials; receipt, rebate form, original UPC, etc. Bastards.

So I resubmitted it today with my home addy. They better pay. Bastards.

It does when you have enough money in a bank account to pay out all of the rebates for every one of the product you sell, but only 50%(random number) of people actually submit their rebates....

That's probably not really how it works, but you get the idea.

Hmm.. Anybody ever had a rebate bounce? lol

Because a lot of times you'll send them in, make copies, send registered mail and they'll claim they never got it. Then you hve to spend 45 minutes on the phone to get your rebates...it's a royal pain in the ass. I spend way too much time on the phone w/ Dells rebate department...
