Whats the point of half-caf coffee?

Every time the ad for half-caf coffee comes on the tele, I just keep wondering what the hell the point of it is.

Surely people who want to cut caffeine intake would simply use decaf, and those who are not worried about caffeine, or indeed want it, will go for full caf...

Are there people who would really go for half-caf?

You can drink more of it without getting as wired...I'd think that's pretty obvious.

I like to drink it in the afternoon.

People who are highly sensitive to caffeine find half-caf useful for waking up in the morning but avoiding caffeine jitters. Then there are people like me, who need ~4-5 shots of expresso before they start feeling anything.

Look, it's not that complicated. I know if I drink anything larger than a medium full caf after 2pm, I'll have trouble getting to sleep that night. But, I know I can have a large half caf and have no problems. Therefore, I can have a cup of coffee I can sip on the rest of the workday and keep me reasonably alert without affecting my sleep.

Also, most decaf tastes like a cup of crapwater. At least half caf tastes like half a cup of crapwater mixed with coffee.

I made my own half-caf for years before I ever saw it available commercially. In the early morning, I like rocket-fuel for coffee, but after a couple of pots of that, I need to throttle back...so, I mix decaf into the brew to reduce the caffeine, but still allow me to drink something that tastes like coffee. I intensely dislike straight decaf, (even though my doctor says it would be better for my blood pressure) and the only time I drink JUST decaf, is if I want coffee late in the day, or in the evening.

Uhhh... if a frapuccino can allow me to stay up till 6am, I think half-caf would be FINE for me. When I have a Starbux doubleshot, it'll last me for like 6 hrs or something even with like no sleep. I'm pretty responsive to caffeine mostly because I don't drink it much and I save it for exams and all nighters and such.

Right now I just drank a starbux frap so I could drive my friend to the airport. I think I'm pretty awake now even though I usually dont wake up till like 5 hours later than now.

To those who drink coffee everyday, I guess you get immune to it.

Drinking decaffinated coffee is like dating stupid women, at first it seems like a good idea, but it really isn't.

Is it really that hard to understand? Some people MIGHT just like half-caf better? Maybe they don't want the jitters from full caffeine?

If there were selling 2 cups of coffee, advertising one as full caffeine and one as half caffeine, yet both were full, that would an "illusion of choice".

If there are selling 2 cups of coffee, and one actually has half the caffeine as the other, and is advertised as such, that is not an "illusion of choice" it is a "choice" of how much caffeine you want.

Sometimes the man is not out to get you. ;)

Um, what if you want some caffeine, but not as much as you'd get in a regular cup of coffee? Not too difficult to understand.

Ohhhhh..... it's coffee for wussies! Now I get it!

Just kidding.

Maybe it's because I am just an all or nothing person that I don't see the sense in it. I just never do anything in half-measures (no pun intended)

It's for the particular people. I don't get it either...

But then again, I can have 4 cups of coffee or 2 shots of espresso and not get wired.

Loup is correct, but many people aren't as sensitive to caffeine as others. They just won't get it :)

I drink half calf if I coffee in the evening. But about 4 months ago, I said ef-it altogether and just stick with tea. Much better for you, and no jitters. I like to squeeze in a cup o' joe midday most of the time.
