what's the point of authentication?

When all it takes is an email sent to you and your username with the site is retrieved, password reset, security questions reset. Just send me the email with a link and that link automatically logs me in. There are too many piles of worthless authentication crawling around the internet wasting my life away satisfying them when the reality is the security is of no value at all
