a seatbelt keeps you from flying around, and an airbag keeps you from impact with the steering wheel or dashboard.Originally posted by: Philippine Mango

a pillow is softer than the dashboard.
Thats what seatbelts are for.

Last time I checked, when I stopped suddenly, I don't remember my face getting even slightly close to the dash board, what prevented me from this? It's called the seatbelt.
Now go drive into a brick wall at 50 and report back.

Since you drive, I am assuimg you are over the age of 17, which makes this thread confusing because this kind of stupidity shouldn't be present once you are over that age. You don't appear to have any common sense, or any sense of how the world works, so I don't think that any of us could explain to you how stupid you sound right now. As many have mentioned the seatbelt only keeps you in place, but it doesn't stop the steering wheel cave in towards you in case of a head-on collision. Would you rather meet steel headfirst, or a firm pillow? THINK?! It doesn't matter if you are in a 50 mph / 80 mph collision, the difference is being severely hurt, or dead on impact. which one do you choose? really..
Well, the last time I checked, the dashboard isn't any cushier than the steering wheel.Originally posted by: Philippine Mango

You've yet to explain why there is a passenger airbag.
An abrupt meeting with parts of your vehicle is rather unhealthy, but so is pulling your body to a complete stop. You can't have a seatbelt hold you without any give, cause too much internal damage. The seatbelt's job is to hold contain you within the vehicle, preventing you from flying out of the vehicle and having a chat with Mr. Pavement. It is also not the job of the seatbelt to prevent the entire engine and assembly from moving into the passenger cab.By the looks of the video, it would appear the seatbelt isn't doing it's job... I've yet to get an answer on the reason why there is a passenger airbag... If the seatbelt was doing it's job, the person's face wouldn't have gone into the steering wheel.

Side impact airbags are even more useful, as no seatbelt is going to stop your head from slamming into your window in a side impact collision.
