What's the point of a 2000 DPI Laser Mouse?

I just got a Logitech G5 to replace my five year old intellimouse explorer 3.0. I've messed around with different settings and I find that the 2000DPI setting is too fast to be useful in any application or game. Who uses that setting and for what? What do you guys set your mice to?

Slow down the pointer speed. You'll get the same DPI but with slower movement. You can do that with the Logitech software or in XP Control panel/Mouse.

It all comes down to balance. Fiddle with the settings until you find the most comfortable.

Well, none of my mice hit 2000 cpi, but when I game with my 1010, I typically have the sensitivity cranked all the way up to 1600 cpi. I like being able to do an about-face with a twitch of the fingers. It's just a matter of getting used to moving that fast - if you can handle it, it's quite nice.

I have a Razer Copperhead, and it's always set at 2000DPI. I use it for gaming and just normal work, surfing, etc. It just takes time to get used to. Mine's cranked to 9/10 sensitivity, and I can use it quite easily. All just takes getting used to.

i'm finding my 800CPI mouse really, really...

not sensetive enough 😉
upgrading to either a mx518, g5, copperhead, diamondback (probably), or fatal1ty 2020. Going to NYC this winter, so hopefully i can have a bit of hands-on feel.
