What's the point in having dual logical CPUs in a laptop?

Are you talking about a dual-core processor or dual processors? Dual core processors are great for multi-tasking. So if you want to encode some music files to .mp3 while playing Halo2, you shouldn't see a huge loss in performance.

i think he means hyper threading

an intel P4 or whatever with hyperthreading shows up as 2 cpu in taskmanager etc

Would you ask the same question about a desktop?

If not, why not?

My laptop use isn't very different from my desktop use, I want as much power as possible no matter where I am.

You got to be mad!

Thats rather an extreme example. You WOULD not want to be ripping mp3's and then playing Halo2! Thats going to affect your fps like crazy.

You'll want to clarify - a Hyperthreaded P4 or a Core Dual (two processors on the same die).

If two cpu's on the same die, multithreaded application may perform better. In most cases, if you only use a single application, you would have been better off to get a single cpu processor with 25% more GHz.

I don't really know.....I was encoding Divx with Flask and somewhere in the process it told me I had 'dual logical CPU'
