What's the point in deploying security in certain places then announcing it to the world?

If it's the cause of terrorists, why show them where you're defending, thus showing them where they may pass undected? I think they should keep to themselves about it. Safer. After what's happened, I don't think anybody needs to be at any unnecessary risk!

Anyways.. What are your thoughts on this? I know somebody's probably posted ABOUT this topic already, but mine should be at least somewhat unique. I'll check this thread again later.

Oh yeah one other thing. One of my teachers was saying how they "took down the internet", that's "they can do that". Yeah, they took down the internet... That's why all the CS students are talking about not being able to access it, right? Maybe they screwed some servers up... or something? I don't think it's possible for the internet as a "whole" to be "taken down" .. is it?

It was just heavy internet traffic for people checking into the major news sites. You had millions clicking at the same time with servers/bandwidth that can only handle a fraction of that.

To be honest I'm not sure there is any place that doesn't have security deployed. Our carriers have exceptional range (with their jets) and with some radar planes in the air we can see all along our coast.

First off, if the information being released was vital, it wouldn't be released in the first place.

And second, they're releasing to ease the minds of the country. When such a devasting thing happens, people want to see and know what their government is doing... they want to know actions are being taken. Again, nothing vital is really being released... just the military has gone on alert, and military are being deployed strategically.

And as for your teacher... it's amazing how ignorant well educated people can be.

Ok, I guess that makes sense.

And yeah... pretty bad, considering it's college level, btw. But it was ENGLISH... they don't have to know jack about computers..
