What's the penalty if caught flashing high-beams to warn about a speed trap?

IANAL, nor am I cop, but I have been TOLD by a former police officer in MD that flashing your lights to warn oncoming traffic about the speed trap can result in a citation being written for having flashing lights on a non-emergency vehicle. I'm not sure the exact verbage of the citation, but that is the basic principal behind it.

I used to flash the fog lights on my old vehicle, but I no longer have fog lights so that doesn't work anymore. I just flash my lights when I feel it is safe to do so.

Cops love to nail you for 10 miles over, which in most cases is perfectly safe. Now if someone is driving like a bat out of hell sure bust em, but most criminals don't want to get caught and don't speed so the whole "what if you were warning a bad guy" argument just does not fly. Most trafficers (drugs, guns, illegals) drive UNDER the speed limit to avoid a police stop. My dad used to drive an old (he kept saying was going to restore it) Dodge Challenger to work and got pulled over for going ten miles under! The cop said beater car + driving under the limit = stop and check for drugs, guns or illegals.

And I thought personal attacks weren't allowed here. Guess there's a double standard when it comes to those with power...
