Personally, I would just say that I thought the guys brights were on. After I flashed, I realized that they weren't. <shrug>

This excuse is very plausible, especially with the incidence of misaligned headlights and aftermarket HID kits.

Perhaps it's different in your jurisdiction. Any ticketed person in Ohio must sign the ticket (which is not an admission of guilt).

85th percentile is 5-8MPH over the limit, on most roads...and that's the safest speed you can go.

And then there are some roads that were designed to handle traffic at 80-90 MPH, but are limited at 45 MPH. :|

I'm sorry I have to say this, but from this comment, I can only reach one conclusion: you are a tool.

I do it as a courtesy to other drivers who may not like many municipalities' abuse of its police force for the motive of financial profit. They use it as a form of taxation.

For anyone who isn't blinded by simple propaganda, in many small towns law enforcement is used as a form of revenue generation. It's not about safety, and if the town needs money, they'll simply crack down on citizens and hand out more traffic tickets.

My friend worked for one such small municipality, and the allocation of officers to traffic detail was directly proportional to progress meeting the budget. (Yes, the money gained from traffic tickets is part of the town's budget, and that money is already spent)

As far as that goes - in Canada, they'll ding you for improper use of highbeams.

"No Officer, I was alerting the vehicle in front of me that I was about to pass."
"No Officer, I was attempting to engage my turn signal and sneezed."
"No Officer, I was under the impression that my high beams were on, and attempted to turn them off. When I realized my error, I switched them off."

#3 only works if your car has toggle-switched beams, and #2 makes a good excuse for a bit of wheelspin on a hard shift with subst "signal" "clutch" :)

- M4H

what do you mean "in Canada" when highway law is provincial.

Couldn't u say u thought u saw a deer in the road or something like that as an excuse? Anyways I doubt they'd do anything about it.

Fortunately I live in an area with a community of educated drivers who warn each other and know what the warning means. I'd say YOU'RE the dumbass, dumbass, and ignorantly selfish to boot.

Ouch, owned by an Elite member. I don't drive and I already know what it means if someone flashes their highbeams, either there's a cop ahead, or some deer.

First it was Goosemaster now you. Just because I may not come off like a woman on the forums doesn't mean I'm not female. Get over it already.

It's no wonder most of the women on this forum decide to leave. Really it is.

Someone maybe a year or two ago put together a website so people could post the current speed traps, and others could check their route before heading off. Don't think it ever gained popularity, but that's a story for another day. The t.v. news media interviewed a represenative of the state police, and he basically said that anything that gets people to slow down is fine with them, also including flashing headlights.

So who knows. I know I've been saved a ticket by someone flashing their headlights, so I try to do it for others. But it just seems like it's a lost cause, nobody else ever does it anymore.

What goes around, comes around.

Or the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

I have been saved myself, and feel it to be a kindly gesture to return the favor.

I don't care if the dumbass I'm flashing my lights at doesn't know why... they might. ;)

And as to how this could qualify someone as a dumbass, I'm a little mystified.

Aww you're too kind I tell you. ;)

I learn something every day but always keep in mind the most important thing - what I don't know would still fill a library. :D

Never had a problem with "the law". :D

Honestly it's probably a good thing I don't drive in that regard. I probably would be a speeder. :Q

hence why truckers don't highbeam...they simply flash off/on their normal lights...(since they're usually on all the time)....it's not high beam and no ticket.

I always flash my lights. I've received the courtesy of others warning me about a speed trap, and I always repay it in kind.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.... I mean seriously. Most women leave this forum because their skin isn't thick enough. Oh no! The mean person that I have no clue about doesn't think I'm a female, I should run away.

But seriously, unless you make it a habit of never going 1 mph over the speed limit, your arguments in these thread really hold no weight.

"I'm sorry officer, I was just trying to make sure my fellow motorists were being safe."

If he/she still has the cojones to write you a ticket, you know revenue is their ONLY reason for being out there.

I do it all the time. Speeding is fine, if done in moderation. 75 in a 65 is perfectly fine, but its something you could get a ticket for. I like to warm my fellow drivers out on the road to slow down when a speed trap is ahead. If I thought the car was coming way to fast, I wouldn't flash my lights, i'd let the sumbitch get caught.
