Whats the part called that blows the A/C, heat, and defrost?

Recently, the fan that blows my A/C, heat, and defrost quit working. The heat and a/c still work, it just creeps out of the vents without a fan. I'm dying in the morning, have to stick my head out of the window to see since the defrost doesnt work. Is there a special name for this fan? I need to go to the junkyard and get it.

ric0chet06, what year and model car is this? Have you checked the relay and the fuses? It can also be the switch on the dash. Usually if a blower motor is going out, it will start to make noise and/or slow down. Has it done this?

the model is a 1996 dodge dakots standard cab, 2wd. I did check all the fuses, one was burned out, a 20 fuse. THere was also a spot where a fuse shouldve been, so i put one back but nothing changed. No noises, nothing. Day before, i was using the heater because it was freezing out. I tried the switches on the dash, every combo possible and still nothing happens.

Blower motor. Check to see if that 20A is blown again, and that empty slot was most likely for an option your truck didn't come with. My truck has a few of those. 🙂

lol, my friend was joking and was like "thats all you gotta put in to make it a 4wd!" when i saw a fuse was missing. Ima go check all the fuses here now.

all fuses still intact. If one was blown, it would be like a scorch mark on it, right? I replaced one that was scorched when the fan first went out.

scorched? thats not a good sign. fuses should just have the little metal strip in them broken, there should be no scorching. this means that the fan motor probably shorted out. you should be able to get one from any auto zone / advanced auto / napa parts store.

Since it's a Dakota, you should look at the passenger side of the firewall for this: Blower switch.. It goes out quite often. I replaced the one in my '92 Dakota twice in 120,000 miles.... It's not really a switch, but sort of a huge resistor...... There will be a plug that's flat that plugs into it. You can usually look at it and tell if it's burnt out....

i think i know what you're talking about, a guy told me about that on dakota forums. I can't see any burning, but I'll put up pics tomorrow.

You could have a bad blower motor resistor. This controls the speed of the fan by limmiting current to the motor. When they burn out, motor no worky.

That's what I explained to him in the post above. Glad you found a picture of it.
