What's the P&S everyone's buying

We need more info. What are your priorities? Highest picture quality, longest zoom, compact size, advanced features and controls?

I'm gonna just go ahead and suggest a Canon S95 as a high quality, compact P&S with usable zoom and good features.

Oh, yea, srrys,, I forgot to say it has to go in my pocket... LOL

and I don't know how to describe this, but none of that lense cap business,, "rugged"??

I WILL drop it..

and,,, start up fast,

so I can get those side boob moments if I need to. haha jk

Video's not veryyy important, but if it can do that at a decent framerate/ resolution, then that's cool too..

there are so many of these powershot variants,, what's the difference between the cheaper model and the expensive one besides the larger LCD,

As a guy who doesn't fancy himself a photographer but likes taking pictures, getting whatever canon or panasonic lumix that I could afford has never served me wrong. I'd suggest going to best buy and seeing which model has the looks/size you like and then just grab it from amazon. The lx5 is an AWESOME camera but does it fit in your pocket? My buddy has an lx3 and it's small but not really pocket friendly. I like my lumix zs3

This. I've seen alot of posts about S95 vs Lx5. There are usually more people saying 1 is better than the other with no real reason. When the #1 thing someone should consider is size. Someone asks for a "pocket sized camera" and people start suggesting a camera that is nowhere near pocket sized because they are fanboys. It's getting old.

If you want "rugged" then I would go for the Panasonic DMC-TS2. ~$260 at Amazon (there are several colors and they seem to be priced slightly differently). No retracting lens to worry about, waterproof to 10m and shockproof to 2m. You will lose out on some of the advanced photo features of the LX5 or S95, but at least you will not break it.

Oooooooooo....... this is exactly what I am looking for... 2 meters is plenty,, Unless I fling it but,,,, lets see 2 meters,,, 20*2)^.5.. 6m/s ok we're good..

ordered.. Thankss ya'll

I don't think you can go wrong with either a S95 or LX5. I have the LX3 and my friends have the S90 and both are great cameras. I don't think one is much better than the other. I think they are pretty on par and take amazing pics.

You don't want a camera that everyone is buying. You want a camera that suits your needs, price bracket and knowledge of photography. Good luck.
And remember most of all "the camera does not take the picture the photographer does".

Good choice. I have almost the same Panasonic TS1, and it has served me well.
