What's the optimum # of fonts for Windows?

My computer is really slowing down (eatting RAM, actually) and I'm wondering if fonts play in to this. So, what's the maximum/optimum number of fonts? Is there a good number?
 
I try to keep it under 300 but I only end up using about a dozen or so. If you need more get a font manager.
 
Yeah, I've heard of "font Managers" but where can I get one for free/shareware? I use all 600-or-so fonts on my system (I do a lot of posters/artwork).
