What's the oldest build you've done that's still in use?

I've still got a Phenom X4 9750 running in an MSI 785G board with 2x2GB of DDR2 800MT/s and a Radeon HD 4670. The system is plenty quick with a 240GiB OCZ Arc 100 and Windows 10. This system is used everyday by a family member of mine with no complaints.

April of 2008. An AMD system running on a Gigabyte motherboard.

I actually put together three of these that year. One for my wife that I replaced several years ago, one that I just built a replacement system for a month ago. On the old one, I blew out the dust bunnies, installed W7 and immediately upgraded it to W10. It's been handed down to one of their family members.

The last of the three is still in service running Vista (yeah, I know...) and will be retired this fall. She will be moving to a new laptop.

My friend is still using an AM2+ rig I built him back in 2007/2008-ish. It initially had a low-power AM2 dual-core and ran XP, using the 780/785G IGP in the chipset.

It was upgraded a few years back, with an AM3 Athlon II X4 3.0Ghz quad, a 30GB SSD, and Win7. It had 2x2GB DDR2-800 at the time.

Later, it was upgraded to a 120GB SSD, and then even more recently, with 4x4GB Hynix-branded "cheap Chinese RAM from ebay". Also, at one point, it gained a GT610 PCI-E video card.

Possible soon upgrades include a 240GB SSD, better (gaming-class) video card (like a GTX950), and maybe an upgrade to Win10.

That's quite the longevity for a board. Hopefully it continues to last. (It's an ASRock board, with solid caps for the CPU VRM area.)

Abit IP KN8 with AMD x4400. (nVidea 8400 GS and 240GB Samsung EVO SSD) Runs on XP in my practice with special software designed by me 20 years ago. At the time part of programming was depending on special software extensions that would Not Run on Win 7 even in emulation Mode. The producer of these extensions gone many years ago and it can not be upgraded. I tried few times using it with Win 7 in a VM, it is working but the programs are highly depended on msec.resolution timing and that does not work well in a regular VM.

Software still does every it needs to do, there is No Point spending thousand of of $$ on Re-programing or using it in a more fancy computer just because I am a computer Enthusiast.

Two Haswell systems and one Skylake.

Finally got everything upgraded late last year, so based on Intel's normal performance increase with each new generation, I shouldn't have to upgrade or replace them until 2030. ;)

Oldest still in use? As in working condition or regular usage?

The first is a 1998 vintage K6-2, Epox MVP3-G2 board with 384MB PC100 SDRAM. It still gets occasional usage.

Second would be a Cedar Mill P4 system running XP for certain speciality applications.

I still have my 478 Northwood platform together, I would need a GPU for it. I have a PATA SSD I bought for my old laptop I could throw in it.

Currently using two X58 systems

my htpc from 2008, i think, still running today, been running 24/7 since i built it. E7400 on a g35 intel board. vista32, 4 gb ram, upgraded the os drive to a 256 gb ssd and the video to HD7750 video card, cant remember the video card it started with, think it was a HD3870? 2 tb spinner, hauppauge colossus video capture board, intel gb nic card. had a SB audigy 2 but i pulled it when i went hdmi.

since its still running perfect, i cant see any need to replace it. which is good and bad, cant justify a shiny new system heh

Don't have any other builds that are still in use.

I have almost everything I need to make my old Phenom II X4 955 system usable..CPU, mobo, case, 4GB of DDR2, a GTX 460, a 64GB SSD and a bunch of HDD's.... But there's no real need for it. The spouse uses a laptop and iPad, and I don't personally need a secondary system (there's VirtualBox for playing around with Linux, AROS etc.).

I have an Intel 875PBZ with a P4 3.0Ghz processor. It used to be in my office for photo and video editing since about 2003. Now it is the computer my guests use to access the internet using Ubuntu.

The saying "they don't make 'em like they used to" applies to this setup. If the house burned down, this motherboard and CPU would be undamaged.

I STILL USE A SYSTEM FROM 2008! A Q6600 in a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3.

And the hell of it is I bought a nice case and cooler to build a new system, but never bought the rest of the damn parts yet. LOL I just don't have the time to try and run sysprep and throw the OS to a new system. If I have to install from scratch it will be a week long affair configuring and reinstalling EVERYTHING! I would like to play GTA V though.

Big sister's Facebook box is an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (socket 939 - OC'd a bit) on a DFI LANParty nF4 SLI-DR. Has a 128 GB SSD (believe it or not it worked without a hitch), 4GB of DDR 400 and a GTX 650 Ti I was done with. Windows 7. She's happy with it.

Probably a Q6600 the sister-in-law still is using, the wife has another old gaming rig with a Q9650 of mine she uses now and then for things.

In terms of builds I've done, the oldest still functioning PC that I have is a Pentium Pro (180 over clocked to 233) from 1997. It isn't something I really use though; the oldest PC build I still use is from 2007.

If you're considering the oldest computer, I still have working Commodores from 1981-1990 and even use them occasionally.

I just retired an E6600-based system. I've got a couple of barebones small systems, but taking credit for building them would be a bit much. I guess that leaves the i7-3770k / 32GB RAM system that's currently on antenna TV duty in the living room.

P3-700 on an ASUS CuBX, 512 MB RAM, GeForce 4600Ti, SB Live! + ISA SB16 for DOS, Win98 SE.

Still fires up and runs, but isn't used much.

I don't know all the specs off hand but one of my servers is a core2quad with 8GB of ram. Not sure how accurate of a way to tell this is, but a dir of / shows system folders from year 2008. So it's like 8 years old. Uptime is 823 days.

It used to be my main server, so it ran mail, web, DNS, development, file, VMs, the works. Eventually built a separate file server, so moved the drives over to it from that server, then got a separate VM server so moved the VMs over. Eventually made VMs to house DNS, development and other stuff. One VM is going to be for mail but ran into an issue that I just have not gotten around to solving. Once I get around to it, I can finally retire that old box. Idealy I will use it to experiment with different VM solutions. I originally put VMware on the VM server since it was quick and turn key, but I want to look at KVM/Qemu. They just require tons of reading/configuration which I did not feel like dealing with originally.

It's incredible how power efficient the new Xeon based stuff is though. I've actually clocked my newer servers at under 100w from the wall. Pretty impressive when my workstation is like 400w lol. Add on video cards will tend to do that.

Core 2 E8500 build done in 2008, used daily until 2015 when I finally scraped together the money for a new system, gave the old box away to a friend where it's still chugging along happily as a media/browser rig.
