i have a an xp 2000+ gigabyte ga7vrxp, i have everything set to the default settings, and the temperature reading for the chip (in bios) is 47 degrees idle. i have an alpha pal 8045 installed with a 68 cfm fan, and i used ASII, with the side pannel open. i've heard about the asus motherboards giving "more accurate" temperature readings, i also read about other people having this problem with the 7vrxp boards, but no one's confirmed that the gigabytes give "more accurate" readings... my computer runs just fine like this, no problems... can anyone help?

The temperature on Athlon CPU's is only read from the diode on the cpu by the newest boards. I don't know about your board but if it's read from the thermistor under the CPU who knows what the temp really is. For Athlon it's impossible to compare from board to board. Basically, if it's stable, then you're find. There's an Faq on this.
