What's the NICEST thing your coworkers have ever done for you?

I'm tired of all these "I hate my job, it sucks, my boss is a douche, etc." posts. Let's hear about the nice things that have happened to you at your job.

I'll go first. A couple days before my birthday this summer, my coworkers had an ice cream and cake party for me, and gave me a card signed by everyone in the department (minus the patrol division...they're on the road the whole time), including my boss, my boss' boss, and his boss. In total, it was probably around 40 names on the card.

The department usually puts something together with ice cream, cake and a card for each staff member's or officer's birthday, but I'm a student employee who just started my current assignment in April (transferred to another unit in the department). Plus, I really respect the people I work with...they're extremely professional, but they know how to have a good time when it's appropriate, so it meant a whole lot to me that the department went so far to celebrate my birthday for a lowly student employee.

:D

You?

Nothing. I can't think of a single instance where anyone at my workplace went out of their way for someone else.

Well I work in sales, and despite my general rudeness, I am very respected at my job. My coworkers have given me the comission on deals that I didnt necessarily deserve it on, taken care of my customers on my days off, helped me out with sales, and many other things.

Nothing major, but it is still nice. We are just one big disfunctional family.

The girls would always do up the place for the birthday, and bring in food and gifts.
They constantly buy lunch and drinks.

Had a similar experience.

Worked for the state CPA society for three years while at the university, and was in a unique position as several transfers/promotions/vacant positions left quite a bit of work and responsibility for me to shoulder. Worked rather hard, and developed quite a bit of financial experience during that tenure. For a part-time position, built up quite a bit of respect around the office (difficult not to know the motorcycle driving mathematics student parking in the small, private gated parking lot where one works). Upon securing the first major employment after graduating, my department (a total of 4 people; 50 people total in the organization) took me to quite a lunch at one of the finer restaurants in the area, then back to conference room with all the employees assembled, and a large congratulatory cake. Thought this was a bit much for just a part-time (37.5 hours per week) student employee, and was certainly not prepared for the $1,000 gift certificate they presented to me.

In retrospect, can understand the appreciation as years later I dealt with student employees who worked hard and those that worked hardly at all, and can certainly appreciate the former.

Recently we got a new General Manager at my store. All of the past ones have been alright, but she is one of the few people I know who really do interact well with others, and she's very thoughtful of other peoples feelings, etc, etc. etc.

Needless to say, since she took over our store has become the best performing store in our county. A few weeks ago we had to fire our assistant manager for stealing money, and she asked if I could fill the position. At the same time, she had to have root canal and have her wisdom teeth pulled. For two weeks, I ended up working nearly 75 hours to cover her shift and the assistants.

She ended up getting a 500 dollar bonus check due to her great management skills, and she got me a Thank You card, and attached to it was a $100 bill. Now, This was just not something I was expecting, I've never received a bonus for doing anything in my LIFE (keep in mind, I'm only 19), and it was just really nice to have someone acknowledge my work. :) Life is good when you have great coworkers :)

Boss said that if i got project done over the weekend (it was like something little left) that he'd take me out for a steak dinner.
Well i got it done that friday so went out for a $20 meal, hes been pretty cool like that all around though. I don't think i've paid for a lunch once when i go with him and he always wants to go to real restaurants for lunch.
The owner of the company decided one day that he didn't feel like working anymore one day at about 1pm so he took everyone that wanted to the Nimbus Brewery and bought us all pints.
Then on top of that another boss took me and another guy out to a strip club and bought us each $50 worth of dances and unlimted drinks (too bad i was the DD so all the coke i could drink and each dance was $7 a pop)
I'm also being offered a paid vacation to Comdex when it comes around...god i love my company :D

I needed some new steel-toe boots, because I work in an assembly plant. Well I am contracted, so I don't get all the benifits of working for Goodyear. One of which , is a coupon for $80 for new steel-toe boots every quarter. So this dude at work just gave me his. So I picked up a pair of $80 Sketcher steel-toe boots. Pretty nice guy.

every sunday at my work, my managers treat me to lunch. i also hang out with the managers as well as co-workers often. we will go to hooters, play golf, etc. alot of the times, the managers will cover everything :).

i guess since i am still working at a grocery store after 8 years (started when i was 14), you make good friends in the long run. i however am also a recent graduate looking for a job, so i am out of the grocery store soon. but we always do things together, as in the managers and quite a few of the co-workers. they even threw me a birthday party which was great :)

Every year the boss takes us out at least once for lunch, the whole department. We also have monthly meetings that are basically to celebrate birthdays (he provides fattening snacks; donuts, pastries, cookies, etc.)

My manager gave me my raise today. That's always a positive.

Uhm, most importantly, they don't get pissed when I play pranks on them and insult them:)
