Cause I know if I buy a 1.2Ghz Athlon right now, they'll drop a new proc out of the sky the next week. 1.3 or 1.4Ghz? 100 or 133FSB? I'd like to know before I plunk down a few hundred smackers...

I think the 1.3Ghz is supposed to be in production now? Dunno.

The newer line of Chips aren't going to be hitting the market anytime soon. I wouldn't feel uncomforable at all by buying a new 1.2gig chip man.. They're just too cheap.

Dood, you obviously weren't a victum of Intel 2 or 3 years ago when you had to pay $$$$$$$ for one of the faster chips out

*raises hand*

I payed $675 for a P54c-166 4 months after they had been out (1.2 gig has been out less than that)..

I know others have payed lots more than that for other, slower chips.

The Athlon will remain their high-end product for quite some time. They will however be introducing the new revision of the core, called Palomino, soon I think. The only difference will be that it will produce less heat, hence allow for higher clock speeds. They'll also be moving gradually to only 133mhz (=266) bus CPU's. I wouldn't wait for the 133mhz bus CPUs to be widely available because with the right mobo, all you have to do is lower the multiplier and switch the bus to 133mhz with normal T-birds. Palomino might be worth the wait, since 1.2ghz chips can get pretty hot...

So what if they do drop a new processor out soon? 1.2 Ghz will be plenty enough to last you a LONG time. Most applications and games don't even take advantage for 800mhz+ processors. 1.2 Ghz will get you a long ways, it's not the 90's anymore where you need the fastest processor out to utilize your applications.

Only thing fast processors are good for is bragging rights.

Kewl. Maybe I'll go ahead and splurge with that tax return after all. Hmmm....I'll have to get that new MSI mobo Anand reviewed...
