What's the new hotness in PC gaming headsets?

G930 is fantastic! I am using that now and it really shines in BF4 - I got a refurb pair on newegg for $69 with free shipping. The wired pair is just as good and a little cheaper. I personally would pay full retail if I knew how good these were. Highly recommend these.

My son has a set of the Logitech G930's and he LOVES them. He is VERY tough on his headsets and seriously went through over 10 pair before I suggested he buy one QUALITY set instead of a bunch of crappy $40 - $50 pairs. Sure enough, he got the G930's and they lasted around 2 years! When they finally died, he bought another set.

FWIW: Both of his headsets have had the boom microphone fail at almost the same spot. The plastic tubing cracks near where it curves. Fortunately, I repaired each of them with just a bit of shrink tubing (used for wiring repairs) each time. Just slide a small 1" section over the boom and hit it with a heat gun until it shrinks over the boom.

BTW: If you have a Citibank Credit Card, you probably get those 'Thank You' points which aren't good for very much. I just spent 10,000 Points on a $100 Best Buy gift card. So, when I buy a set of the G930's for myself, they will cost me less than $25 ($114 + %8.X tax - $100).

ARGHH! A whopping week later and Best Buy has the price jacked up to $160! What the f**k?!? Of course, when I posted my previous message a week ago, I submitted 10k 'thank you' points to redeem a $100 BB gift card. Today, I got the card in the mail and wanted to go and buy a set of these headphones for myself. I went online to see what store had them locally and *BOOM* the price is $160. Sheesh.... Now, I'm wondering if I should sell the gift card for $85 and put it towards the headset somewhere else, or if I should redeem another 6k points (yeah, the pricing isn't linear) and get a $50 BB gift card. That way, next week I can get the headset locally for $160 + tax - $150 in gift cards = almost the same as I was going to spend anyway.

Ugh... I just needed to vent and figured that I'd reply here to suggest that everyone avoids Best Buy unless the item is on sale.

UPDATE: I just called Best Buy and asked if they could honor the price that I saw last Monday. They said 'no'. So, before hanging up, I asked if they'd price match to Fry's ($135) or NewEgg ($110) and they said 'Yes'!!! So, I'm going to get a set from them after all. Sorry for the premature rant, but I needed to get that out BEFORE I called Best Buy and spoke to someone. If I hadn't I would have likely hung up in a rage instead of asking about a price match.

GameCom Pro 1 is the best headset ever made. Comfort and sound quality for price point. You couldn't have asked for a better headset. I still use mine.

I have the Plantronics GameCom Pro 1's from over a decade ago and love them - they're discontinued and the mic seemed to break recently though.

Great sound and lightweight very comfortable.

I'd also bought the Plantronics Commander limited edition. They're list price $300 and were on sale for $70. They're heavy, closed headphones. The sound is 'perfectly fine', but I don't care for it quite as much as the others. The mic is very good, and the build quality very good.

But the comfort and design are very bad. After a while they're causing a very sore ear, and they can't be adjusted well because the adjuster is just a little wire that they slide right back on. They include those hard wires in a location that they can press on your head.

They come with a Dolby box built in to the cord, but it just makes the game sounds sound like they're a few feet away - it sounds worse.

I've ordered a replacement of the earlier Gamecom's off ebay where they're still for sale.

I also have the G930's and Syberia II's, but they're still in the box.

Also some pairs of normal headphones, also still in the box.

It's hard to beat the Plantronics GameCom [Pro] 1's.

I have g930's but I use them at work as a general headset/mic. I like the wireless, but our microwave in the break room (about 30ft away) makes the signal spaz out.

At home i have Beyer Dynamics 770dt pro 80ohm headphones on an older SB Fatality Gaming Sound Card (has headphone amp). The g930's sound great. I don't really have any 'complaints' because they are good for what they are.

But as others have stated, the Beyer Dynamics are in a completely different/better class.

I just have the G430 which was great until about a week ago, and now the surround sound cuts out on it. I think it's the software rather than the hardware, but damned if I can fix it. So I've had to disable the dolby for the meantime. Annoying.

The hotness is get an awesome regular headset and then order a ModMic.

This seems to be the perfect solution. Bonus of being able to mic up any headphones I want to use.

I'm currently just using my regular stereo headphones and a Shure SM58 on a little mic-stand. Works great, but I'd rather be able to remove that setup from my desk.

I have nice headphones but I got Corsair 2100's for gaming, I prefer those for gaming. Mostly because they're wireless, and you can't get good wireless headphones for the $80 I paid for the Corsairs, but also because they're very comfortable and I'm not an audiophile when I'm gaming. I'll use other stuff when I'm doing music production or whatever, but the Corsairs are more then nice enough for the casual stuff.

So, what do peeps recommend when it comes to a headset with a good noise cancelling mic?
Basically, my wife and I game in the same room. I naturally talk fairly quietly, she talks at a higher volume. Problem is, when we are on voice chat, my mic will pick up her talking which causes an echo. Programmes like Mumble let you adjust noise level that a mic picks up voice, but due to me talking quietly, if I set it high enough not to pick her up, no one can hear me either.
I was hoping a decent mic which cancels noise from around me may help.
I have had recommendations of HyperX Cloud II and Sen 360

Just bought a pair of Sennheiser PC 350 SE's that appear to be on clearance to replace my Razer Characias. Seems to have great reviews.

Used to get my headsets at Best Buy with the warranty as I would eat through them in less than 6 months regardless of what brand I bought so having the in store swap warranty for two years at $15 was a great deal for my special needs. Best Buy doesn't seem to carry anything any more except for a couple cheap pairs of Logitechs.

Loved me some Sennheisers I used to use in my buddy's studio. Hope these are somewhat comparable in build quality and sound.

I had G35 for quite a while, until I dropped them one ear piece broke, and I got tired of having it tie wrapped together.
I jumped on a $70 deal for the G930 and am very happy with them. Once in a while they got out on me though. I haven't figured out the pattern.. if its radio interference or what.
But I love being able to walk across my house to the kitchen to grab a beer or food and being able to hear what's going on.

The best option is to have two headsets, one for gaming and one for music/movies imo. That is what i do.
