I was watching a DVD the other night and was marvelling at the picture quality, even on my bad GeForce2 Pro and old Viewsonic monitor, and a thought struck me: what's the native resolution for a DVD movie, either on a set-top box or on the computer? I run my computer desktop resolution at 1280x1024, and I've never noticed any stretch marks or blurriness on a DVD movie like when I play a file that's too small (ie, a downloaded video like The Killer Bean 2, which even at 640x480 shows noticeable defects when full-screened through Media Player). On a TV, I don't know how the resolution works, but on a computer does it downgrade to the screen res? But then we return to my original question, what's is the native res of the movie I'm watching (any do they vary)?
