What's the name of this power tool?

We're moving our office and the furniture all comes without computer wire holes! :|

Which means IT will have to drill a round hole at each desk about 2 inches in diameter to allow computer wires to pass from inside the desk to the wall outlets.

I'm not a carpenter and I don't claim to be one....so, if I were to stop by homedepot tomorrow...which power tool should I ask for?

I find it funny that management won't do anything to take care of this even though we brought this to their attention early last week :|

Another skill to add to my "IT" skill bag I guess

sweet, searched for hole saw on homedepot and found exactly what I need....door hole saw kit!

this one should do just fine 🙂

how fast will it wear out? I wonder if I should get a couple...we have about 50 offices to drill :|

I did about 30 holes with one from an $8 set...it doesn't get much cheaper than that 😛 One should be fine if it's decent.

The door holesaw kit is too expensive. Just get the single size you need. Besides, that hole will be 2 1/8" wide, and most plugs for desks are 2".

You're also going to want to get some of those plastic things that go in the hole and cover the edges and inside of the hole. I'm guessing the desk surfaces are laminate, and you'll probably get some chipping. Besides which, the hole will be ugly without something in it. Find those first, then get the appropriate sized hole saw (don't get one of the door hole kit as Evadman mentioned).

Also, when you're using the hole saw don't push straight down on it. "Rock" it in a circular motion so that the pressure is on one edge at a time, otherwise it'll get really hot and take a long time.

Edit: See "Plastic Snap-Ins"

id suggest only doing that with wood, if even at all, drilling metal like what will rip the teeth off the holesaw and bend the pilot bit

Don't "rock" the hole saw. Look for a good brand (Lennox, Starrett, Milwaukee) and if all the desks are wood, the good one will last for all of them.

I'm not sure if it's wood...it may be that new stuff that looks like wood. I've only seen it once so I'm not too sure. 🙁

guess it doesn't hurt to try
