I own a p3 733mhz coppermine computer, with an Asus P3V4X motherboard. Im not a big OCer, so I don't want to spend any time or money on extra heatsinks/fans/whathaveyou. I just want to know what would be around the best settings to have it at without it being to unstable or hot. i was hoping 800 mhz? can anyone shed some light on this? oh, and what is the easiest way to check the CPU's temperature? should ASUS probe do the trick? thank you for your time

Just try upping the FSB gradually and see how high it will go, that's the only way to know.

And yes, Asus Probe will be fine for monitoring temperatures.

ok ill try that. can anyone tell me what i should be expecting? im hoping 800 mhz isn't too out of the question

btw, if i only up the fsb, the temperature wont increase, correct? that only happens if you up the voltage, right?

Upping the FSB will give you increased heat. Upping the voltage will just increase the heat more - for example, if your system is stable at 800MHz at 1.70V, use that rather than 1.75V, because 1.75 will run hotter (that's just an example). As long as the system is stable though, you shouldn't have to worry. 800MHz seems fairly reasonable, but it really depends on your processor and motherboard.
