I dont know why, but i havent been able to get this out of my head all day today...

When i was 5 or so, I had a swimming instructor almost drown me in a lake. Without any warning (and before i could take a breath) he pushed my head underwater down to his feet and stuck it between his ankles, which he used to hold my neck underwater. After about a minute underwater my mom turned around and saw me struggling to breathe and ran over to help. She had to push the guy over to get him to let me free. I had swallowed a crapload of water and was having trouble breathing... My mom took me to the hospital but luckily everything turned out ok...

God i still remember that day like it was yesterday though... To this day i still have reservations about going underwater while swimming... I wouldnt even wash my hair in the shower until i was 12-13 because i was afraid to stick my head under the water... I had to do it in the sink...

So.... Anyone else have any traumatic stories to share?

Got t-boned pretty hard once .. not that I'm scared of cars now, but i understand how violent and powerful a car wreck is.

I was at a peeler once and my ex-girlfriend was there too (shortly after we broke up) and she got up on stage and the two strippers basically stripped her down and licked her and stuff, much to the enjoyment of the entire crowd of drunken hornballs in the crowd. That broke my mind, that and the nightmares I used to have about her.

Seen a few too many, just pick a number between 1 and 1000.

What is really bad is when the patient is trapped and we have to work on them in the car for 30+ minutes because the car is folded on them. Not pretty.

What the hell was he trying to do? Sounds like he needed some charges pressed against his &ss. Endangerment of a child for one. It sounds like attempted murder from what you say. I hope your mom slapped the hell out of him.

Probably the most traumatic thing ive experienced was being told that my father had died.

My left ring finger was cut off at the middle knuckle in an accident when I was four. I also had both achilles tendons surgically cut and lengthened so I could start walking when I was around 18 months old.

He was a stupid local college kid that thought it was funny. My mom was screaming at the top of her lungs when she was coming to get me (she told me this, I couldnt hear a thing underwater), she was more concerned with getting me out than at beating the sh!t out of the guy. Luckily some other parents came over to help too...

Im not sure whatever happened to the dude, i know all the other parents grabbed their kids and left too...

idk lets go with last halloween i was getting out of my car in my little town about 10pm the speed limit is 35, i open my door get out, toss a couple things to my cousin, reach back into the car for my backpack *BAM!!!!!* tractor trailor smashes the door to my eclipse, had i been leaning out of my car by 5 more inches it would have hit me.. NO WAY was he doing 35, he stopped 1 mile down the road after we'd though he took off. glass from my door was sprayed down the road about 1/5 to 1/4 mile away... i know impacts are alot, but he was NOT DOING 35MPH! thing that pissed me off is he's booking thru this little town on halloween thankfully no little kids were running around while he was passing thru. anyways i was freaked out, tried to take a microsoft certification exam the morning after that's when it was sched. for. i was shaking all day and couldn't think. i fail the test it's been a year and i can't seem to get myself to take tests again, my lawyer was outta town i shoulda sued the company for mental anguish or something, but they managed to pay me 1k for 3.2k worth of dmg. i'm still pissed......i don't think it was that traumatic idk...just felt like sharing

When my house caught on fire after being struck by lightening about 6 hours after my wife was told she needed an emergency ultrasound because her doctor couldn't find our unborn child's heartbeat.

Emergency spleenectomy after a hockey accident. Long story short, I blacked out once while driving home (I didn't know my spleen was ruptured yet). Luckily I just finished making a turn onto a smaller road where my car rolled to a stop. I woke up a few mins later pissing on myself... and finding the car with the parking brake on (how the hell did I do that?). Nobody stopped to investigate why my car was halfway on the wrong side of the road - WTF. I made it back to my dorm room and called the school medical building. Nurse said to go to the hospital ASAP fearing abdominal pains to be BAD symptoms. I blacked out one more time as I was driven into the emergency entrance of the hospital by my friend.

Losing consciousness is the worst feeling... not even the surgery (although my abs hurt for weeks). Looking back, that nurse saved my life, because I was about to sleep the pain away.

Give blood, play hockey. ;)

As a sufferer of Marfan Syndrome, I had an aortic valve replacement on 12/31/99. I was 29 years old at the time of the surgery.

I used to drive a 1983 Tercel hatchback - Little tiny car. One morning I was coming home from work, around 8 AM, & a semi decided to tailgate me on the two-lane highway outside of town. The place I had to turn had no turn lane, so I had to stop in the lane, wait for traffic, then make my left turn. Needless to say I could stop a LOT quicker than the semi, & he slid past me on the shoulder with his tires locked & horn blowing.

Scared the crap out of me, I shook the rest of the way home.

Ive only lost consciousness twice in my life...

Once after getting pegged in the head with a rock the size of my fist...

The second time after not eating anything the day before, getting up too fast to go pee, then passing out while urinating.

My brother has blacked out after waking up numerous times. He'd go to the bathroom to do his morning thing and the next thing you hear is a loud thud. He hasn't hit his head flush on the tile or tub yet - thankfully. EAT SOMETHING.

Sometimes I get light headed when I stand up quickly and on ocassion I've basically had to do a controlled fall to the ground. Need a higher blood pressure :D

When I found my mother the morning after her stroke. She was up and around, but couldn't speak a word.

That was about 6 or 7 years ago. She's fine now, though. :)

When my father died. I was 8 years old back then. I was home alone with him when he had his last seizure. I had to call my mom (who was working) who in turn called the ambulance, It only took like 5 minutes for the ambulance to arrive, but it felt like an hour. they arrived and took my father away. That was the last time I saw him alive. He had a brain-hemorrage and he died a bit later. I still remember it, like it had happened yesterday.

Sorry to hear that. How's he doing?

To keep the thread on track, the most traumatic thing for me was my divorce.

When I was in 6th grade, at baseball practice, it was cloudy day and my coach was hitting us pop-ups.

I was his directly in the mouth with a pop-fly. I was unconscious for a few minutes, and then woke up with my face down in a pool of blood (sooo much blood), and my coach was just getting over to me. My 4 front teeth were broken, among others, and my upper jaw was broken - I could grab 1 of my 4 front teeth and move it back and forth causing the other 3 to move (that was fun to make people squirm).

But that wasn't even the worst part. The worst part was the 8 hours of surgery where my mouth was stretched open the whole time (caused scabs like you wouldn't believe), and then the following 2 months where I was not able to eat solid foods, because of all the wires in my mouth. Blended hot dogs, anyone?

To this day, I can't:
a) play baseball
b) eat tuna fish (I ate that crap so much)

And I hear it screwed up my coach pretty good too.

The death of my mother the day before Thanksgiving when I was in college.
