So I've lived in IL, IA, NE, AZ and now in Kentucky. I've traveled across the US a lot as well. But never have I seen a population embrace a state as much as Kentucky. Literally, the outline of the state is everywhere. Window stickers in cars. Tshirts. Cups. Hell there's even a number of people with the outline of the state as a tattoo.

There are states that unique in shape, Texas is obviously very recognizable, as is Florida. California to a certain degree. New York as well. But I've never seen any other state turned into a marketing identity like Kentucky.

Maryland doesn't care about state shape, but we love our flag here. It's pretty ridiculous.

I don't know, but it's about damn time for Massachusetts to annex Rhode Island. State? Hardly!

What's especially funny is that, however many Kentuckians themselves would or wouldn't recognize their state by its outline aside, I tend to doubt that anyone else would at all....:D

Hawhye Alasky
I think all of y'all who keep saying Alaska and Hawaii are grossly overestimating the geographical knowledge of the average resident of the contiguous 48 States...;)

Solid. If it has a shape, it's probably solid.
Only in the most technical sense, maybe (and I'm not really prepared to agree even with that without a documented reference.;)) But certainly in everyday/conversational usage, who would ever argue that two-dimensional things like "squares", "triangles", and "circles" aren't "shapes"?

The Maryland flag is pretty colorful. Odd that I would end up living here I think in 5th grade it was, I misspelled Maryland on the chalkboard "Marland" and had to write Maryland like 50 times on the chalkboard. I never forgot after that and here I am.

Thinking about cumberland to retire - cheap housing. And decent internet :p

I see a ton of Hawaii stickers, a fair amount of Washington stickers, some Alaska (although far less by population), and obviously a lot of California (shit we put it on hats, shirts, freaking everything)

This is so freaking true. I don't even live in KY but I see the shape very often.

Yeah it's pretty crazy how much it is marketed.

The next closest that I can think of is the South Carolina palmetto tree. I see those EVERYWHERE.

Texas is pretty rampant. Pickups have the Texas state incorporated into badges straight from the factory. Burger King had Texas flag upholstery on the seats in some locations.
Then there is the star motif, that went nationwide. I thought it was a Texas thing until it cropped up around the nation. The Lone Star is an alternative to the Texas flag or state shape. Also see that on pickups.

I live in Ohio for 7 years and never realized that swallowtail pennant was the State flag

I'm gonna guess Florida, Texas, and California. I think Florida wins out because of Disney/Beaches/Tourists/Crazy Florida News Articles.

Yup, it's gotta naturally be CA, TX, and FL. All 3 are bordering the sea in some way, thus giving it a natural shape. Other landlocked states just have imaginary borders drawn to it.

Colorado. I see Colorado nearly everywhere I look, every day. It's maddening.
