I don't live too ghetto-ly (still a college student).

Most of my "toys" I paid for with jobs and stuff. My mom pays for rent and those necessities but I pay for stuff I like (computer junk, HDTV, speakers, etc) with my own money.

The worst I've ever done involved using cinder blocks for TV stands, shelves, etc. Duct tape and random crap to seal up windows during winter. Duct tape and wood glue to keep my bed from falling apart.

Plus all the food crap. Hamburger Helper dinners. Rice and nothing else because there's nothing else in the fridge.

All in all nothing too extreme. I'm not scraping by through college, but I don't have a car (much less a $50000 one) or live in a palace or anything, either..

I haven't done anything really ghetto (does eating one meal a day count?).
Anyways, it may not be college, but there was a great episode of Scrubs:

http://www.nbc.com/Scrubs/episode_guide/33.shtml

They end up taking all the toilet paper/pudding/fruit cups/etc from the hospital. There was one scene where the trunk of their 80s Volvo was just full of pudding cups. Classic.

wow. after reading most of these posts, i feel like i should donate money to college students since they sound like they need the $$$ more than those starving foreign children..

College students run the extremes. You have those who are poor (like us), to the point of doing such activities listed in this thread.

Then you have those who are really rich, due to the fact that their parents gave them everything they ever needed, got them a brand new car, and got them a house OR pay their rent and utilities every month by sending a check, plus a little extra.

Honestly, it's just the way it is in college.

70% of the wealthys children go to college.

8% of the poor.
