What do you guys do when you're ready to sell your old card for a new one eBay? Or some other method? Any tips in general for doing it?

Only have sold one card, did it through ebay with zero issues. Back in the days before the internet people sold things using the newspaper, now we have craigslist. You could always use the FS/FT forums here also.

FS/FT forums or Ebay. I trust the buyers on FS/FT Forum here at AT more than the ebay buyer, but you sometimes can get more $$$ from ebay. Either is good IMHO. I don't do CL, too much hassle with non-interested buyers and spam.

I do a Ebay Buy it Now. I look what they are selling for and price it on the upper end of the average price. Some people don't like waiting 7 days for the auction to end. I've sold 5 or 6 of them so far that way. And they always sell within 3 days.

ebay is the way to go. Other buyers from other places keep backing out or haggle too much.

I like FS/T here. Even if you don't get top dollar, chances are unlikely you'll get some dipshit complaining how the card doesn't work, even if it's from user error.

The most efficient, stress free way to sell your video card is to set an HONEST price. A very large percent of posts I see on forums, people try to sell their video cards for much higher than they are worth. And some people's way of thinking, is laughable, to say the least.

For example, I saw a guy trying to sell his 4870 2GB for a ridiculous price of $400+ saying that it's extremely rare, the best of the best and all that. While the card may be in fact rare, it doesn't change the fact that for this amount of money I can get a top of the line card from both ATI and Nvidia that will certainly outperform the 4870, even with 2Gigs of ram. That or I can run a couple of slightly cheaper cards in SLI.

I also see a lot of people trying to sell shitty cards like the 4650, 4350, 220GTS and the like for around $35-45, when they actually got them for $25 after rebates, and used them for a while.

People don't bother to check ebay's prices and other people's prices on forums before posting. And that is completely wrong. Somehow, many folks assume that maybe the buyer is stupid, and doesnt know the differences between various video cards and their REAL prices.

All this being said, I understand that anyone wants to make an extra buck, including myself, and we don't always set an honest price hoping to find someone who will bite, but if we want to sell our video card FAST, and without any stress, again, like I already said, we must set a real, honest price.

PS: When setting your price, consider that while you may sell it on ebay for more as opposed to FS/FT here, ebay+paypal will rip a nice large chunk or your hard earned cash leaving you with what you would have gotten here on FS/FT. Also, buy a digital scale, pack your video card in the box, weigh it, and check online how much it will cost you to ship it. Oftentimes the shipping costs completely kill any chance to make back the money you originally invested, and unless you absolutely need to sell for whatever reason, you might as well just keep it. I learned this the hard way, but because I made a deal to sell, I sold. I have always been more careful about these things ever since.

I'm not looking to get top dollar; just a relatively quick sale at a decent price. Thanks for all of the advice.

I sell my PC related stuff on Amazon.com for a realistic, reasonable price and they're usually gone in a couple days.

I don't upgrade very often, but I did sell my old HD4830 on ebay. I sold it for more than I paid for it, but with the ebay tax... I don't think I made much, if anything. I'll probably try the FS/T forum next time.

Posting on Craigslist is free, so I throw stuff up on there, no harm done if it doesn't sell. Just be prepared to delete a lot of email from lowballers. The thing I don't like about Ebay is dealing with PayPal, if the buyer says something is wrong with the card, you'll lose the case.

I'll use ebay at times. But prefer to use a regional website with forums for BST of various types of items.

The forums incorporate a feedback system for transactions you make and it makes it easy to trade safely by choosing only to deal with people with solid feedback. Plus, most trades are done locally and I rarely find the need to even ship anything.

1. Figure out what it is worth.
2. Subtract 15%-20% to make it go quickly.
3. Post in for sale forum, but be clear that there are no returns.

That's it. Quick and easy, and hopefully no complainers.

Ebay gets you more money, but there's always that chance that some moron will buy it, break it, then complain that you sold him a defective card. Best case in this scenario is you get negative feedback. Worst case is you get your card back broken, you refund the purchase price, AND you get negative feedback.

My time and patience are worth something to me. I have a love/hate relationship with CL. Most of the time there is way too much BS to deal with before you sell, but at the end of it all I've usually ended up selling my stuff to nice people.

I usually sell video cards to on ebay, and I've sold quite a few. A few pointers if you're looking for minimum hassle:

1) Set a fair price, and be honest about the condition/usage of the card in the description.
2) Buy-it-now, and require immediate payment. The time between the end of the auction and the time you get paid is time wasted. If someone has time to surf ebay, they have time to pay me.
3) Ship to lower 48 states only. Smaller market, but much less BS. You can also block your listing from being viewed by users in countries you don't ship.
4) Accept PayPal only. For a large ticket item like a video card PayPal will withhold the funds until either the buyer leaves positive feedback or you can supply PayPal with tracking info, and they will automatically release the funds a few days after it is delivered. The nice thing about giving PayPal the tracking info is they will also notify the buyer that the item has been shipped on your behalf.
5) Post actual pictures of the item. People tend to like to see what they are actually getting as opposed to a stock photo. This will get you a higher price and reduce the number of questions.
6) Be prepared to ship. I usually have the stuff packed, weighed, and ready to go. All I have to do is print the shipping label and drop it off.

Craigslist is pretty good. If you're not concerned about getting top dollar and just want to liquidate it, I'd say craigslist is best. If you set a low price, someone's bound to recognize the deal and snatch it up. If you're patient, you can set a higher price to start. If it isn't selling after a week or two go ahead and drop the price.

fs/ft forums here work well, just sell to people who have been around for a while with a reasonable post count and you'll always be fine. :)

Ebay and craigslist. Craigslist in a big city is better because the sale often comes quick with cash. Ebay takes a cut but widens your pool and provides more protection. I always like to add a note in my ad that if one isn't familiar with graphics card installation process to please not buy (given all the bitching seen on Newegg).
