Whats the most boring job you've seen?

Just wondering. I walk by this security guard sitting in front of a vacated commercial building everyday. Just sitting there in front of the only entrance to the parking lot there, reading a newspaper everyday. Sometimes he has a book but mostly a newspaper. What a boring job.

My friend was a security guard at IBM, at least he had tv and the internet at night. Sometimes he'd walk around and read up on things they were researching there. He said a few things were interesting.

I don't think I could live with a boring job. Even if I was 60-70 years old with few employment opportunities available.

At least he can sit. I feel sorry for the security at my local BoA where he has to stand outside even if it's freezing.

Ya, the bank security guy here in Pike Place market gets my vote, no one in their right mind would rob it, and the old guy knows it. Even if there were some idiot who were to rob it, whats this old guy gonna do?

Yup, I used to think 'why can't I ever find a job that pays me to sit around.' Then, I've come to realize that I can't do that without going crazy. I knew a guy who works for a gov't. contractor and due to security protocols, his job is to watch two other guys work every day. That's right, He sits and watches two other people work. That's a job?

I haven't personally seen it, besides on TV, but like an assembly line worker. Where you sit or stand there all day doing the same friggin thing over and over and OVER again. Ugh, that's bad. I'd rather be the security guard guy that just sits there. You could do a lot of reading, which I wouldn't mind.

For 20 hours a week, I had to watch the Simpsons, Futurama, and Family guy episodes for a psychological test. It took 4-5 months to finish. Not much of a job but more of an experiment, but the most boring part was watching the newer episodes of the The Simpsons for a couple of days.

Just off campus there is a Chipotle, next to the Chipotle is a small parking lot that fits ~10 cars. There is a parking attendant for the lot. Not exactly the busiest job ever..

I worked security in college. It's not as boring as it looks for some places. But, it can be pretty boring sometimes. Where i worked, we weren't allowed to read materials that weren't company related (that means no newspapers, books, magazines anything). No internet either. So it was sit and stare at CCTV monitors or stare at the wall. I'm not saying we didn't all read books or newspapers anyway though...lol. but if it was day shift and a supervisor was around? Boring.

So...did they deem you crazy afterwards or what?

I believe assembly line workers rotate positions so you don't do the same job for too long.

Not everywhere, unless you request a new job. My mother worked in a factory for the better part of 30 years and the last 5 or so were spent doing the exact same job all day every day. Many other people do the same, unless they sign postings for new positions. Not exactly assembly line, but it's doing the same job on the same part day in day out.

Working in a small machine shop doing manual machine labor = worst thing ever.

How would you like to operate a punch press with the same exact thing over and over again? Insert a small copper piece into punch press, press down on pedal to operate press, it stamps a hole through the copper, repeat 50000 times. It not only is incredibly boring, you never get to quit. Once you finish a box of them, you just pull another box over and repeat the process. Wooooo.

At least you go to work knowing you'll have something to do

Strange, but I immediately knew when I read this that you were referring to the UC Chipotle parking lot. Wow. I've actually seen quite a few cars towed from that lot over the years, almost including myself.

I'd say amusement park ticket-takers. Did it for one day at Kings Island. Wanted to off myself.
