Spend that crap as you go. That's what it's there for.

I don't leave the house with change, and it's rare that I'll make multiple cash transactions in a day.

I don't do Starbucks in the morning, McDonalds for lunch with a vending machine snack, stopping on the way home for Lotto and a frozen pizza. With that lifestyle I'd carry a pocket full of change.

But it's not. All I need is my Aldi quarter, which sits all by itself at the bottom of my center console cupholder. The one not occupied by my Tigger.

I remember a bunch of kids who kept coming up to the register in the pizza shop and asking for 5 nickels for a quarter. Apparently the little shits were hammering them flat. A nickel is thicker than a quarter, smaller radius, but about the same mass. And when hammered enough times, was able to fool some of the video games.

Thats a cool story, on my planet (Earth, you may have heard of it) all of our coins are flat already, no need to hammer them. :whiste:

$5 - Even then, I wouldn't pick it up if it was wet or nasty. Would have to be $20 for that.

I never pick up money from the ground, or anywhere else unless it's mine and I dropped it or if I saw the person that dropped it and I can return it to them. I'm really weird about "found" stuff, I never touch it, it makes me feel weird and dirty.

Where's the option for a mill (1/10 of a cent)? They used to be used for taxes and streetcar fare when I was a kid.

Nickel.

That said, I'll only pick it up off the ground indoors or on a sidewalk if it's not ridiculously dirty there. If it's in a gutter surrounded by trash and oily puddles, then I'm not touching it.

I can remember getting into a phase where I'd ignore pennies on the ground. For some reason, this eventually made me feel ashamed of myself, like I thought I was too good for a mere penny or something, so I rarely pass anything by if it's convenient and not intertwined with a used condom or something, even though pennies are virtually useless.

Again, for whatever reason, this thread got me thinking about when bottles were returnable for money. As a kid in the summer, down the shore, you could spend an easy half hour or so and harvest enough abandoned returnables to cash in for more candy and ice cream than you could reasonably want for the whole day. I always thought that was cool. :)

I've given that a lot of thought, wondering if that wouldn't be the way to go instead of using plastic bottles. I think plastic wins out in resource conservation, even considering that you throw them away. By the time you figure in fuel for the hot glass furnaces, and transporting a crapload of weight around with glass bottles, plastic wins even though they're made from petrol.

Returnable bottles were cool though. They were more artfully done, with distinctive shapes, and nice artwork :^)

I leave money behind me as I walk.

Later when I am in a stupor it helps me find my way home.

What's the _largest_ sum of money you'd pick up (and not hand in somewhere) without either feeling guilty or nervous?

Too much money and I would have visions of ending up like the guy in 'no country for old men'
