assuming its not a NEW RELEASE MUST HAVE! dvd...i understand spending more on those...

but say there is a sale on dvds and u see one u want...how low does it have to go before u will buy it?

i think for me (a student) if its not one that i feel that i HAVE TO own, it has to be below $15 for me to buy it

Just spent $19.99 on Return to Neverland for my son, but I normally try not to spend more than $17.99. If there are a number of movies I want and Columbia House has them I do the DVD club deal as described at DVD Talk.

It used to be $8 shipped but with the gravy train days gone I'd upped that considerably to $17.99 if it's a penny more I won't buy it.

Lately what I've been doing is exchanging (trading) my DVDs with other DVDTalkers, recently traded The Royal Tennenbaums ($10) for Spy Game :D

I don't buy new releases. Why do I want to pay $19.99 now when it will be the same movie in 6 months to a year for $10.99?

The average cost per DVD for my collection (DVDTalk lingo) is ~$8-9. It includes mostly newer movies (circa last 4 years), some anime, and a few old classics.

I buy them online; off message boards, Half.com; and offline, through Hollywood or Blockbuster (pre-viewed).

I'm a bit obsessed with some things...so if it's a particular anime title I'm correctly enamored with, I'd fork over $30 if need be.

If there is something new out I want, I usually get it for <$18, so I pick it up then. If there is something rare or "special" I might pay more for it. Like the Criterion release of Robocop :) I think I shelled out $30 for that.

$22-$25 Canadian for brand new. LOTR will always be an exception. That's right, new line could milk me for all i'm worth...

Back in the days of good deals I wouldn't spend over $6.oo shipped but now I will go up to $10 delivered. I have bout 2 for my wife for quick gifts for $18 after tax, but don't hink they are worth it. You need to hunt for the deals and do some trading now instead of the super coupons and totally free ones of 3-4 years ago.
