What's the max resolution of component input?

I heard that composite has a max resolution of 640*480 and s-video has a max resolution of 800*600... is this true?

What's the max resolution of component in?

I'm running a component feed from my HTPC to my tv at 1920x1080. Don't know if it's the max resolution component can carry, but it's pretty damn high anyways.

Well, i'm sorta wondering the opposite. See, right now i'm running my playstation 2 to my dell Fp2001 lcd and it looks like crap cuz it has to stretch the picture out. I'm wondering if it'll be worth getting the new dell Fp2405 with the component input so i can hook up a dvd player with component in and not look like crap.

Sorry to threadjack, but I'm having a similar issue and was kinda wondering the same thing. Here's what I've got:

A 6" LCD off of one of those "Car DVD in a bag" units.

A Compaq Celeron 2.4 ghz laptop (with no screen) with an S-video tv out

Now the video connection from the LCD is a headphone type/looking plug. I had some adapters to convert that to an RCA female connection.

On the laptop side I have an S-video to RCA adapter. This allows me to connect the LCD and the laptop.

I do get video, but it's crap to say the least. The resolution on the laptop is set all of the way down to 800 x 600 and it's also set to the lowest possible "Colors" setting.

The picture still looks blurry and the colors don't seem right.

Any suggestions?

Can the laptop resolution be taken down any lower?

Composite has a vertical resolution of about 220 lines.
S-Video has a vertical resolution of about 400 lines.

Non-HD Component video has a vertical resolution of about 480 lines.
