What's the Marvell 9128 controller used for?

Trying to figure out what to leave the settings on in my BIOS for the Marvell 9128 controller.

I'm using an ASUS P6X58D-E with only one SATA II 3.0 HDD. I leave the Marvell 9128 controller disabled otherwise during post I get a "no IDE HDD detected" warning for a second or two.

Is the Marvell 9128 controller only used if I want to RAID? Should I be leaving it on disabled if I'm only using one HDD?

Thanks.

Your board has a Marvell SATA controller. If left on, it will attempt to see if there is any volume hooked to it. There is no harm other than it slows down the boot process. If you only have one physical disk (which should be plugged into ICH10R) then you can safely disable the Marvell controller in the BIOS.

Can you explain what you mean by "plugged into ICH10R"?

I have 1 SATA HDD and 1 SATA DVDRW.

The HDD Is plugged into SATA port 1 and the DVDRW is port 4.

On your board, the white SATA ports are governed by Marvelle controller and the others by ICH10R (native to your board's chipset)
