I need to get some more batteries for my Sony Cybershot DSC-P71 Digital camera, and it came supplied with two AA 1750mAh NiMH Batteries. My local staples has some so called "Digital camera" Batteries, but they have an 1850mAh Rating? What does that mean, and can I use them in my Camera? I really dont want to have to order direct from Sony.

I swear this has been asked a dozen times before. Oh well.

The mAh rating is life of the battery basically. 1750mAh means 1750mA for one hour, half that for two hours, etc.

they will provide more power and will give more juice per a charge compared to 800mah, 1200 mah, etc

Battery FAQ

How Are Batteries Rated? (What Are Volts and Amps?)
There are two ratings on every battery: volts and amp-hours (AH). The AH rating may also be given as milliamp-hours (mAH), which are one-thousandth of an amp-hour (for example, 1AH is 1000mAH). The voltage of the new battery should always match the voltage of your original unless the batteries are different chemistries (NiMH and Li-Ion batteries have different voltage ratings, even if they're for the same laptop). Some Hi-Capacity batteries will have higher amp-hour ratings than the original battery found in the device. This is indicative of a longer run-time (higher capacity) and will not cause any incompatibilities.

It means that ideally, if the device you had one of the batteries in were to draw 1850 milliamps, the battery would be able to supply power for one hour (I think). Or for the 1750 mAh battery, it would go for one hour with a device drawing 1750 milliamps.

Generally the higher mAh ratings will provide for longer usage times.

{edit} Damn, I gotta type faster :) {/edit}

I would go with something like this - The Maha Fast Charger + 12 1800mAh AA 's.

Also..check out their ebay auctions - i think their under ptron1 - by far, the best charger out there.

Depending on his budget, if $ were no object that's definitely what I'd buy.

I've purchased from SunnBattery.com's eBay (user id ptron1) auctions and have been very satisfied.

that looks good, but yikes! 45 bucks?

I could buy almost 4 of those Panasonics for that price.

4 rapid 5 hour smart chargers

8 AAA 1600's
24 AA 1600's

I've heard very good things about MaHa, but the biglots suits my budget :)

I like the adapter concept. Radio Shack C and D batteries built exactly like that. Do we have Big Lots around here ?

Everyone has a different definition of ghetto.

Maybe you need to move out of your mobile home estates into a real home :D

amp is a current draw, hour is how long it can supply that draw. so a 1000 mAh battery can supply 1 amp for 1 hour, or 2 amps for 30 minutes, of .5 amps for 2 hours.
