What's the lowest speed AMD is unlocking chips?

I can save myself a few bucks if I buy a 1ghz retail AMD chip from newegg designed for the 200mhz FSB, rather than the 266FSB t-bird.

I know AMD has been unlocking chips recently, but I don't know what the lowest speed grade they've been unlocking.

Is either of the 1ghz chips likely to be unlocked, or are neither, or is the 266 more?

Also, are ALL 1ghz chips AXIAs now, or will just the 266 FSB chip be an AXIA?

It's kind of important I get an AXIA, but not terribly important I get an unlocked chip. Has anyone bought from newegg recently that could shed some light on my situation?

I'm not sure about the MPs (Palamino), but all t-birds that are >=1300 are unlocked. I have installed several AXIA 1000 chips in the past couple months (both 200 and 266 FSB) and none have been unlocked.... that is what a pencil is for!

Hrm. So if I wanna do some easy overclocking, should I just spend the extra money on a 1.2 OEM or retail?

The price diff's don't seem like too much to not hafta go through the trouble of re-connecting L1 bridges...

Though, are the 1.0ghz/200mhz chips mostly AXIA/AVIA's now? Then, I could just jump up the FSB to 266mhz, and be happy for a while.

EDIT: Oops, Insane3d said both 200 and 266 chips have been AXIA's... The 200mhz FSB processor it is!

Thanks for the help y'all!

contrary to popular belief, not all 200MHz FSB CPUs can make the jump to 266MHz. the difference between the 1G and the 1.2/266 is $21 anyway.

Oh, you mean the issue with motherboards running the processor at it's hard wired multiplier for a split second initially?

If it comes down to that, I'll just break/join the necessary bridges to hardwire at at a lower multiplier.

Too late anyway now, I just ordered the 1ghz/200mhz CPU. :)

It's the 1.2 chip...Got my girlfriend an AXIA 1.133GHz chip and I had to unlock the thing with my trusty pencil.

My AXIA 1.2GHz chip came unlocked (unfortunately for me...both hit 1.4 and no higher) <--I paid extra$$$ for no reason!!!

That sucks man. If mine hit's 1.4ghz, I'll be ecstatic. All I'm expecting out of this baby is to boot at 1.0ghz, and I'll be happy. Anything higher will be pure gravy.

Mind you, I'm upgrading from my trusty old pentium2 350mhz system. :)

HAHAHA, funny s@*% spazntwich1. If you haven't already, check out NewEgg for their low prices on Athlons. You might look into getting a 1 gig Athlon (I'm told that NewEgg somehow always manages to ship out the AXIA chips which are rumored to OC very well). That way, you can look forward to pushing that baby well over 1 gig!!
