holy mother...that last machine must be nearly unuseable. I take it he at least let you disable visual themes and a lot of other stuff?

slowest? that would have to be my laptop. 1.3GHz celeron. However it came w/ XP. If I ever needed to reinstall I'd put 2k on it.

With 1mb on-board It's running 800x600 with 8 bit colours - so visual themes consist of a new window opening. Not too bad starting up <1 min.

The first two were running 2000 pro, so they are used to the speed.

Back in the day I installed Win95 on a 386sx 16MHz.

That was a hoot.

The lowest I ever did was a Pentuim 4 system running at 1.7GHz and with 256mb of RAM. That is my moms PC.

The wierd thing is: I'm getting adicted to this - almost as much as running a nice stable OC whilst keep good temp's.

I saw a p133, 16mb laptop and start thinking to my self - hmm I wonder if I could get 2000 on that

I ran XP Pro on a PII 400 with 256ram for 2.5 years as my primary system.

I even ran another install of XP Pro on top of it with Virtual PC 2004.

It handled it nicely, along with photoshop, and dreamweaver.. just alot of waiting.. :)

i tried xp on a 233 mhz and failed. i decided to give the computer 98 instead. it's basically a waste of time but nice lesson learned.

Why would you downgrade to 2K?

Why? I can install my OS of choice in 30 minutes if I take my time (and on slower hardware than that). AND I don't have to spend money on a license to do it. ;)

I haven't done XP on anything slow, but I did Windows 2000 on a Pentium 75 with 32MB of memory.

wow, it's going to take forever for that p200 to do anything. If you have to install sp2, no more hard drive space

Who says I paid for the license? I just take a cd and pop it in there, when the 30 day limit is up, format and I'm done.

I'm not gonna sit there and watch it install, I just leave it there and play a game or something.
