I stayed up 72 hours three times in mylife.

One during a final project.
Another when I was moving and had to the place habitable.
The third one I don't remember much, but there was a lotta music a people around me. And my face looked like this :D

48 hours, but the last 3 hours driving home from Reno was the worst. The pavement kept moving side to side underneath the car. That's what it felt like anyway.

My record is only 28 hours, however, I think under the circumstances it's a little more impressive. Go to friend's party and stay up until past midnight; go home to sleep; get up at 3:00 AM to go bird watching in a competition with some of my buddies; cut out of competion early at 5:00 PM with a division winning 100+ species (I forget the exact number) after traipsing through three counties and hiking through state forests; shower, put on Tux, and pick up corsage before picking up my Prom date at 7:00 PM; dance until Prom ends at 11:00 PM; go to After Prom and play basketball, raquetball, and "smite ball" (like wallyball except the only rule is hit the ball as hard as you possibly can); leave After Prom when it ends at 4:00 AM; go with date and friends to Frish's; leave Frish's at 5:30 AM; take date home while managing to keep my parents' car between the ditches; drop date off at 6:30 AM; get home at 7:00 AM and literally fall into bed.

120 hours. At a 5 day convention. After about 36 hours you get to a point where even the thought of sleep makes you feel sick (or at least i do). All the activities kept me awake, but as soon as i got home to bed i was out like a light for 16 hours

I've been up for 2 days many times, 2 1/2 a couple times (keep zoning), but the longest time was this funny story a couple years ago:

I was up all night one night, stayed up all day and went out and partied that night. Got home ~2am hoping to get some rest, but found my roommate and a few other people up - drunk, playing strip poker, and cranking the stereo. I couldn't get to sleep for hours, I kept bitching about the noise but each time it got loud again shortly after. I finally fell asleep about 5am, only to awaken 15 minutes later in a defensive state. I didn't know what was going on so I got up, to find that my friend who lived next door punched a hole in my roommates bedroom door when he caught my roomate and his wife fscking on the floor. To make this story better, my roommate was the best man at his wedding two months earlier! She decided to tell her hubby that it was "rape" and she was passed out, to make it sound better on her part. So she called the cops to file a report. She later realized this was unfair for my roommate and went to the police station to cancel the report. The cops arrested her for underage drinking when she told them she had previously lied.

After all this BS there was no way I was getting back to sleep so I decided to stay up and do what I had to do that day. A couple hours later when I was smoking a bowl I heard a knock at he door. I thought it was a neighbor and I was blowing out my hit as I answered. Bad Idea. 2 boys in blue standing there! "Uh, your prob here for Eric right?" "Yes..." they started trying to talk to me but I slammed the door in their face instead, told my roommate he had a visitor, and ran out the back door, got in my car and left. He got arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor (for supplying alcohol to her, under 21). Yes, the cops told him they smelled it too. :)

Anyway that night was halloween so of course I had to stay up AGAIN and party. Luckilly one of my friends gave me a few lines to help me out (usually something I never do).

There was so much more that happened in the same timeframe too, when these guys lived next door to me... other stories involved this stripper who lived there with them for a while but that is really going off on a tangent... and yes, Jerry Springer show DID call. But noone wanted to go on there LOL :)

So to make a really long story short, close to 72 hours with a 15 minute nap that I was rudely awakened from.

(Did anyone actually read this lengthy post?)

You guys are pikers! Obviously noone here has ever suffered from true insomnia. During my freshman year of college one of my best friends died, and I was depressed and insomniac for months. I pretty well did not sleep at all for ~3 months. I did lie down and relax my eyes at night for a few hours, but never truly slept.
