What's the longest distance you've ever driven in 1st gear?

I set a personal record today - the Focus, with the automatic gear lever jammed all the way down into 1. I had TWENTY-FOUR CRT monitors in the car (initially, it was only 9, but one of our other cars refused to start after we loaded it, so it got transferred off into mine), and didn't want to get too fast to the point that the load started shifting, and maximize engine braking. I was on surface streets, speed limit 25. Redline in 1st is 25. How convenient, eh?

Rode that for the whole 3 mile trip.

Cliffs: 3 miles.

Pff, thats nothing, around the city I dont get a chance to leave first gear, even on the highway Ive probably gone longer than that while in first. So my longest trip around the city would probably be 40-50km's

if you're stuck with a major accident on the highway, you'd travel in the 1st for a really long time.

Yeah, try driving anywhere in rush hour around a metropolitan area. You go the whole distance in 1st...

I've definitely traveled 50-60k without leaving second gear, in one of those ridiculous freeway traffic jams. I probably stopped completely once or twice, but didn't bother shifting to first.

Yeah. A Focus SEDAN, too. (mind you, these were all wee little 15" units)

8 in the trunk. 12 in the back seat (folded flat). 4 in the front seat. All doors, windows, and the trunk actually closed properly, too.

We've gotten 100 of them into a passenger van once. Monitor stacking is an art form. Cargo vehicles aren't even a challenge. Time consuming because of sheer quantity, but there's no challenge in it.

Actually, I did that two or three weeks ago. I was in park. For an hour. On the hottest day of the summer. With my fuel gauge buried well past E. I was waiting to run out of gas. Some fvck flipped his RV over, blocking all 3 lanes and both shoulders with debris. I was past the last exit before the accident.

Yeah, when I was first pulling away. Engine idle in 2nd translates to "way too much speed", though, and stuff started moving in ways I didn't want it to.

A mile or two I guess. My clutch slave cylinder was leaking clutch fluid and I wasn't able to shift.

I've done easily 20 miles in 1st, damned houston traffic.

Haha, when my dad was younger, he blew out his forward gears racing once, and had to drive home, about 10 miles, in reverse.
