What's the highest voltage that's still 'safe'?

Using classic Athlon on an Abit KA7. Most people tell me that 1.8 or 1.85 V is the highest one should go, no matter what. Any thoughts?

That depends pretty much on the cooling you use. i used to run my Celeron466@735, and to get there I had to run it at 2,5V(default is 2,0V). Most people wouldn't even think about running it above 2,3V, but I did, and I did it safely because I used watercooling. For a good heatsink I think you would be safe at voltages up to 1,9V, but I don't claim to be an AMD guru, so people, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Toms hardware has a article on oc'ing the thunderbird and duron on the a7v, and recommends 2.11v as max(safe)on these chips. Heat was the limiting factor so watch it. Realizing that they are not exactly the same processor, you should up incrementally to this and keep your eyes on the temp. Toms actually achieved 2.32, but did not recommend it. At some point upping the power even substantially yields no real increase in speed anyway.

I have a Athlon 850 on a KA7-100, and by default the voltage only goes up to 1.9, but with a GFD I can go all the way up to 2.05. To get 850 @ 1000 I set it on 1.95v. Its 100% stable, I'm not sure if it'd work at lower numbers, but I have a very cool chip (p7125 alpha hs and sanyo denkai 60 mm fans), so it doesn't bother me to run it high. I've set it at 2.05 before and no problems, although there might be long term ones at too high of a voltage.

Toms hardware said 2.1 (or was it 2.05) is feasible.

You best have a socket-a Peltier/water cooling system though!

OK thanks. I've only got a Golden Orb, exposed cpu (had to remove Athlon case to use GFD), and a couple of big fans.
