Mine can only go up to 85Hz for 1024x768 or 100Hz for 968x512 (or whatever it is). The schools Dell can to up to 100Hz for 1024x768. What's the highest possible? I think I've seen 120Hz, but I'm not sure....can someone tell me the fastest refresh rate for a CRT monitor is?

it depends on the monitor. my viewsonic i had before my 2005fp could do 160hz at 800x600 & 120hz at 1024x768 all the way up to 85hz at 1600x1200 (which is what i used)

it could do higher resolutions but i cant stand less than 85hz on a crt.

I know the FW900 supports up to 160Hz vscan and the max supported refresh rate is 140Hz. My Catalyst drivers support up to 200Hz, but I don't know of a display that supports it.

The max refresh rate is limited by the display specifications (bandwidth), driver support and the RAMDAC speed of the graphics card for analog displays.

Yea, I'm getting ready to spring for a used FW900 to try and hang onto a decent gaming CRT for a bit longer untill another display solution I can live with for my primary display on my main PC bvecomes available. My 22" Mitsu isn't long for this world I'm affraid.

My old NEC AS120 has a vertical maximum of 200hz, but the horizontal maximum is fairly low so it does that only at 640x480. The horizontal maximum is much more important anyway, since that indicates how well it does at larger resolutions (most higher end 21/22" CRTs do 130khz and a select few do 140khz).

You do realize, that the 180Hz rating is not for 1,920 x 1,440, it's probably for 640x480, or lower. My LaCie electron19blueIV (being replaced with LG L2000C) does 75Hz at 1920x1440, 85Hz at 16x12, 100Hz at 12x10, 120Hz at 12x96, 120Hz at 10x76, and 150Hz at anything lower than that.

There are formulas using the bandwidth but i forgot them

There are formulas using the bandwidth but i forgot them

HrHz = (NumOfHorizLines * (MaxVrHz/0.95))
VrHz = (MaxHrHz / NumOfHorizLines) * 0.95

For example:
Frequency range: Fh: 24~82kHz, Fv: 50~85Hz
Resolution: 1280x960

VrHz = (82000 / 960) * 0.95
VrHz = 81.14583...

Refresh rate for 1280x960 = 81.14583 Hz.

of course i realized that. i owned the monitor for 5 years or so.

Mine can run 200Hz @ 800x600
120Hz @ 1280x960
100Hz @ 1600x1200

345Mhz Bandwidth

My monitor handles 160Hz@1024x768, 100Hz@1600x1200 and 85Hz@2048x1536- NEC FP2141SB-BK(same as the Mitsubishi 2070).

I've got a cheapo 17" Future Power. The built in Utility says it's at 60Hz at 1024x768. My video card settings let me apply 200Hz. Something I'm missing here? hehe That would actually kill the monitor, no?
