you need sony keys to get the old one out.

Every manufacturer uses different keys. Go up to BB tomorow and either do what I said, or pay them a couple bucks to pull it out.

I've been googling and haven't been able to find keys for sony. Do you have any clue where I could buy them myself? I am 100% sure this is a simple job if I had those keys....

Just go to a local non-chain stereo shop, and drive around to the install bays. Offer somebody a $5 bill to pull the unit out for you. It should be literally 2 minutes of work for someone who knows what they're doing.

Otherwise, if you really want to pay somebody else to do it - I'd figure minimum $30 or so, probably more like $40-50 ... because you didn't buy it from them. Or find a friend at school who knows what he's doing, buy him a case of beer, and you're good to go.

can you post pics of your old deck?

I am thinking that you might have one of the Sonys that didnt use keys. For some models there are just tabs on the side of the deck.

I will post pics later tonight. I'm at my girlfriend's now, and I'll head back to my apt in a bit, I'm finishing up a program due at midnight. Maybe that'll help clear it up, I hope.

This might have already been said, but that black trim peice that your single din HU and climate controls are mounted in comes out in one peice. I've never personally worked on a 98 contour, nor seen the inside, but i'm willing to guess that there are two screw recessed on the underside of that trim peice, take those out and the whole assembly should just slide out of the dash. Disconnect the wires for the climate controls and anything else that is on there and you are good to go. If there are no screws in it, then it's installed with clips, in that case, get a good grip on that black trim peice and pull, it *should* pop off farily easily.

If you could take a couple of pics that are further away, so I could see what it's like, it would be easier for me to explaine.

Someone two blocks away had most of his dash ripped out - plastic split and everything - as a result of something similar. This sh!t happens ALL the time where I live and they don't even make 15-20 bucks on the street for these things. Pisses me off to no extent.

OK I decided to ask one of my friends (from my classes) and he has keys to sony decks. I'm gonna go pick them up now...
