What's the fastest Winchester OC on stock cooling?

As many have seen, I was lucky enought to get my Winnie to 2.7 on stock vcore.....on a Via chipset!

Well, I finally broke down and got a Neo 2 Nforce3 mobo to see what this chip really has. I hope this board is stable to 330 or so, because I see 2.9-3.0 on stock cooling in my crystal ball. Anybody seen anything higher than this or want to make a prediction, please chime in.

I'll update after the holiday-be safe all.

one time i booted into windows at 3000mhz (my fsb only goes up to 300mhz) but as soon as i started taxing the cpu, it crashed. thats not stock anything though.

I'm thinking either prime stable or superpi 32m test stable-I've had both with this chip @ 2.7 already, so I just need a mobo that will take me higher.

lots of people have hit 2.7 ghz with 1.4 volts on a winchester..

especially those with 0448 SPAW's...

so you wn't be setting a world record with your chip...

i doubt you'll get more than 2.7 to 2.8 ... 3 on air is unlikely with stock cooler... unless you REALLY got a good one...

I just picked up an Nf4 Ultra D and a 3000+ Winnie 0447, I think it was before I plugged it in. Didn't have time to mess with it too much, but it seems 2600 (8x325) is promising. I was just playing around a bit via Clockgen, and kept upping the fsb to 350 for 2800. Tooled around in windows a bit running some Sisuck Sandra before it crashed. Nothing scientific though as I didn't have the time. My HTT was way over 1000, OCZ VX was at 2-3-3-6 tighten up from 3-4-4-8 rating at 3v running at 235, so there are alot of things to sort through first, but things look promising for getting 2600 or above.

Let's take my c0ck out of this thread for a moment (pretend that this thread is your mom).

Beyound that, OC'ing as an expensive sport, hmmm. NO!

My Athlon64 4100+ (estimated) coat less than $300 for the CPU/Mobo. You're the opposite of correct. And to you other TC'ers, please post legitimate comments only-I'm not trying to be an egocentric jerk. Rather I am genuinely curious what the best that people have seen done with the stock cooler is.

BlingBling- He opened this thread to hear predictions on how high his OC gets, and to share his OC with the community. If you dont care about it, then just dont read the post.

I'll wish you luck to hit 3000 MHz, but my guess is you'll hit 2850 MHz. (I mean SuperPI/Prime stable)

Hopefully i am wrong :)

u sound like my daughter, she wants a X2 for herself to oc =D

but serious: Guess its all about how much money and time ur willing to pay to see fps increase by what? 20fps in css or doom3 from 3000+@4000+? Better results in super pi? Can u feel that improvement in every day scenario? Iam running decent rig too: San Diego 3700+, DFI-SLI D Bios 310P, 2 x 512MB Gskill PC4800 (Timings CL 2,5/3/3/5), 2 x Geforce 6800 Ultra Point of View cooled by a Mach 2 GT, Graphic cards with Innovatek und Black Ice Radi/ Eheim.
I couldnt oc higher than 274MHz x 11 = 3014 MHz at 1,712 Volt primestable. SuperPI 32M = 25min and 12,9 Seconds, SuperPI 1M = 27,297s.
And what do i do with my übercomputer? Playing World of Warcraft :-/

I most definitely can feel the difference in every rig I've ever OC'd. Since I assume that I know what I'm doing on an OC, I never by a high-end chip and always best the retail available speeds. I can't prove some of these, but others I can-btw most expensive cooling I ever bought was a Thermalright AX-7 for $30.

TBred B 1800+-->2.2 GHz with the aforementioned AX-7
Mobile NW 1.6--->2.4 with stock desktop NW cooler
Celeron D 2.4--->3.6 with stock cooling
Winchester 1.8-->2.7 (and counting) with stock cooler

As you can see, those are tangible overclocks for everyday use as well as FPS gains. I'm sorry that you have spent over two grand on a rig that is hardly any faster than mine *especially in everyday use (your 6800 Ultra definitely owns my 9800 Pro OC'd). Why would you rip OC'ing as a hobby when had you done it, you could have saved yourself $$? Oh, and I hardly play FPS games---like never. I just enjoy the challenge of OC'ing for its own sake and that's why I was wondering what others have reached-so that I have a mark to shoot for.

BTW-Still only had a couple of answers (thanks to those on topic). Looks like I'm shooting for 3 GHz, huh? Any other guesses?

the guys complainign is a fool. why play sports, it server no pourpose. why play video games?? why eat good food, we could make pasty things that will me better for us and just inject them directly into our blood stream, it will save time and money. we do it cause we enjoy it you f***ing d ick and who are u to say what my hobby should be. My hobby is buying pc parts and oc testing reading forums magazine on pc stuff. Some people build model planes or read books some shoot cocaine, me i oc computers.

Hey-that cooler is nice-I have two of those cooling the ram on my video card.

Seriously though, I don't know how far this chip will go before it needs even a little boost. It hit 2.7 without changing vCore, so it may have even more. 1.55 or 1.6 is all I'll give it anyway. More than that is beyond what the stock cooling can handle and I don't feel like investing in a good cooler for the extra 100 Mhz. That's why I titled the thread the way I did.

I am prime stable to 353HTT on this Neo 2 board (without any mods to the NB chipset)...No Abit let alone a sh^tty Via board will pull that off....I use 1.8 bios but 1.62 is just as good.....

Set the HT multiplier to 3x and at around 330ish drop it to 2.5x...I have a theory that perhaps the vagp also sets the vcore for the NB chipset so set that to 1.6v....

I seriously doubt stock cooler will make it much further let alone giviong it any more juice....I have an extremely well cooled case in an AC controlled room at at 2.6ghz with 1.48v I was hitting mid 50's on this board....As sooon as I hit 1.54v and 2.64ghz I was already at 58c.....Neo may read higher temps then what you saw elsewhere....

Once you hit the max for your stock vcore you may get another 150-160mhz out of it by the time you hit 1.55v.... If you dont make it to 2.8v on default vcore you wont get to 3ghz within 1.65-1.7v and then only water cooling will help you there....

Duvie, is your room rather hot? My basement sits at 68F year round, and with my winnie stock HSFU, I load at 54C 1.65V. Only got to 2600 though, which is rather dissapointing...
