What's the fastest PATA laptop HD to get?

Links to reviews would be great, but not needed...I just can't find any info out there...Well I take it back I did find a couple revies done at the end of 04, and at the start of 05...but I figure thoes are pretty much worthless...unless no new HD's have came out since...

cool, thanks guys...is there a size that is faster than the others?...I'm wanting a ~100, but if a 80 is a little faster I'll have to think about it real hard...

7K100 is a hair faster in some situations, but is louder & has 3 year warranty. I have one in my laptop and it is very loud - you can download a utility from Hitachi to lower the acoustics on it, but even then it isn't Seagate quiet.

Seagate has 5 year warranty, is 99.999% as fast, and is whisper quiet. It costs more, but that's where you weigh your priorities.

yep, i buy seagate mostly every time. all my desktops have barracuda's. the 7k100 was faster in the laptoplogic tests... noise isn't too loud, I had a DF60 Hitachi before and it was a little louder.

Right now I have one of thoes rare toshiba 7200 rpm, 16meg cache drives, it's pretty loud, I doubt this 7k100 will be any louder...what do you think?

You can reduce the noise level of a 7K100 using Hitachi's drive utility

Yep! What that does is slow the drive down.
